Default I must bid a fond farewell to an old friend.

Today, I traded my wife's 08 Vue for a 2011 Volvo XC60. It had about 96,000 miles and was in pretty good shape. I got a fairly decent trade-in for it and got a good deal on the Volvo. I knew I was going to have to do something--my better half has been looking at car brochures for about a month now. I knew the end was near. The XC60 sort of looks like the Vue--the general shape is similar. It also looks like a larger version of my C30---it is sort of a matched set, both are white with black interiors. I'm going to miss the Vue---it went the 96,000 miles with no major repairs--just 4 tires and oil changes. I hope the Volvo is as dependable. I bought my first Saturn in Feb 1992 and sold my last one today---its been 20 years! I'll feel strange without a Saturn in the driveway. I plan to keep visiting and posting on Saturnfans--this place feels like home to me. I have been and will always be a Saturnfan.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Huge fan of those, you made a great choice. Have they switched them over to full LED taillights yet? Did you get the T6 model? If there was a Volvo dealer where I'm moving they'd be very much at the top of my list (there was a dealership there for Volvo, but they closed somewhat recently as best I can tell from google).

Volvos tend to be reliable, but they do require more upkeep than a lot of American cars you can drive into the ground. And said upkeep isn't exactly "cheap". But, they're luxury cars, not cheapos, so it's to be expected. Finding a good independent Volvo mechanic can make a big difference too, at least for your regular upkeep stuff.

Its an inline 6 (3.2 l.) non turbo. It has 240 hp. Headlights are the blue projector beam type and the taillights are LED. Maintence schedules and pricing appears to be a little cheaper than my CTS maintence was, so I'm not too concerned. I was paying about 100.00 a pop on services for the Caddy and this is less. Its what the wife wanted so I was pretty much locked in.

Nice... It's AWD development was co-engineered with Land Rover for the Discovery.

As far as safety, it's among the top for luxury SUV's.

I saw everyone paid Invoice price+ for these vehicles. $33,700 - $48,400 depending primarily if you get the turbo engine and other pricey options...

Smart man, smart man. I've learned to try not to influence my wife's car decisions unless there is a major flaw in her logic (like a LR Discovery she wanted back in 2003....). The one car I talked her into buying was a disaster.

Enjoy the Volvo. Those are very nice. Surprised the Captain Americas of this forum haven't raided this thread and cursed you for buying Chinese....

Geely (a Chinese automaker) now owns Volvo. They're still made in Sweden, though.

Eventually China will own everything. We should be more afraid of communism now than we were during the Vietnam era.

I learned that if she ain't happy I ain't happy. As for Chinese ownership of Volvo, GM has at least 2 factories in China (co-owned by them) building Buicks and engines as fast as they can--the cars aren't imported yet, but will be by 2013 and the engines are already used in some Chevrolet and Buicks
here already. Most major corporations are associated or dependant on Chinas financial input already---at least Volvos are built in Sweden at their traditional factory(s) by the same workforce.

I wasn't saying anything bad about the China connection, so no worries.
