Default Car Alarm w/ remote start etc.

Alright, I know this has been talked about a little, but I want to bring it up again.

I am seriously considering buying this car alarm.

I work on my car all the time and don't think it will be too hard to install. I am always up for a good challenge.

From what I have read, people say the Ion's electrical system is so touchy that the alarm just creates problems.

Has anyone installed an alarm like this? Please tell me your thoughts on the subject.

I'm just trying not to make a choice that I will regret.

Thanks

I've seen success stories, and I have seen failures.

Make sure all of your connections are clean, tight, and wrapped well. Try to avoid splicing into any power that would be heavily computer controlled.

I have never installed a car alarm before. Which is why I'm worried. I don't want to be unsure about what I'm doing because if I do have problems I won't know if its my screw up, or something with the car.

Can anyone point me to a good place for alarm installation instructions?

Do you think the alarm will come with good instructions?

I would really like to have this alarm, so I will probably buy it and try. I just hope I'm not going to waste my money(Even though it's a good deal).

I have been doing some research and I'm going for it.

Probably the most useful information I have found so far is the link below, for anyone that cares.

I got a cheapo brand keyless entry for my girlfriend's car and it never has worked right. It has odd quirks (it likes to lock the doors immediately after you unlock them). I would stick with a better brand.

Yeah, the performance of the aftermarket keyless entry in my old car was mediocre too. It worked fine but only had half the range of the factory rke, even with a fresh battery.

I'll give a short review if you guys are interested.

I think I'm just going to pay the money to have it installed. After reading about all the work involved I don't it will be worth my effort. I would rather leave it to the professionals.

Update: I highly advise anyone thinking about getting a remote start alarm for their ion to not get it. As of right now I am in the middle of trying to get mine working.

I waited 9 hours for them to install my viper alarm and $636 later, its not working correctly. In fact, my car is no longer starting.

I am furious right about now. I will give details later. Hopefully I will end up with a good outcome.

p.s.- The installers seem to know what they are doing, they are just having a lot of trouble. But they are sloppy, which is relly annoying me.

I just need to cool down right now.

they installed they bypass for the theft lock right?? i remember when i went to bestbuy that was one of the things they told me i would need, that would most likely cause the car to not start. also i tried installing a car starter/keyless entry on my car and it was the biggest pain in the ass in the world... and gave up and took it back. goodluck let us know how it turns out.

Installing an alarm isnt that hard. I bought a crime gaurd 9 somethin from crutchfield about a year ago and installed it myself. it took about a full day to install it. if you do it section by section and pay attenton to the wires as you go and have a voltmeter, its not that hard. granted i dont have remote start, i do have the starter kill and doors lock and unlock and whatnot. the only issue i had was the doorlocks. but i fixed that within an hour. youll need a relay obviously aand also a resistor attached to the negative wire of the door switch. without the resistor you wont be able to lock or unlock. itll just do one. if you need more help with wires or the resistor thing for the locks, let me know.

its not bad if you take your time and rely on a voltmeter

EVERYTHING IS WORKING!!!

The guy came to my house because it was no longer starting. Turns out it was something as simple as an improper ground. I mean it was grounded but to a bad spot or something.

The guy was real nice about it and took care of it. I'm just glad its all done and working. But man was it a headache to get this thing installed.

Now on to my other projects.
