2002 SL2
Default Well. Shifter Cables.

Any decent aftermarket cable or should i stay OEM, What year cables will work in a 2002 SL2, any variations i can do, Driving to work today, I shifted to second and boom, Shifter went floppy, Pulled over, took off the console. Bushings are okay.. Hmm.. Checked under the hood the U Clip is there... Hmm.... Cable that goes foward and backward is frayed and broken. So, I'm gonna find a decent set of cables from a JY or a dealer, should i go ahead and do the Bushing and endloop?

Get a set from the J/Y and just do the bushing. Unless you manage to bind it up the end loop will not fail unless subjected to severe abuse. A set with the oval push in grommet is a definite OEM but those with the rectangular plate may or may not be OEM.

I figured to save myself some hassle. Do it all while it's out... Will 96-02 Cables work or 00-02 Only?

OEM new or junkyard.

i dropped over $200 on brand new OEM ones though.
was in a pinch and JY wasnt an option

If you have to pull them yourself just unbolt the shifter assembly from the floor and take it along with the cables. The 2000+ is the one to grab if you can. How to remove the grommet is in my photo gallery. It is easy once you know how...

Most around here. The idiot goes into the yard with you.. He'll end up hacking them up trying to take them out, then they say you have to buy em once they're out.. I'll tell him step by step how to remove em so.. hopefully i dont have to go all the way to Orlando for a U-Pull.

I myself am on my third OEM cable. They wires keep popping out of the bushing, I guess there is something worn with the tranny or shifter tower.

What I did was just JB weld the crap out of where the cables go into the bushing to keep them from popping out. Pretty easy fix and has lasted over a year as of today.
