2007 AURA XR
2004 ION-2 Quad Coupe
Default 2007 Aura XR vs 2007 Passat 3.6 VR6

Just noticed a review of the VW Passat on carpages (Canadian website). Its the new 3.6 litre V6. The review names the Aura as a competitor, however, as you would expect at $41,000 Cdn, it is substantially higher priced than the Aura XR, and, does not come without its problems (worth a read).

2007 AURA XE
Default Re: 2007 Aura XR vs 2007 Passat 3.6 VR6

Nice car. The interior is very elegant and well finished. I'm surprised that it's slower than the Aura 0-60 by .4 seconds. The auto tranny issues and the cabin leakage would suck big time. At nearly $10 grand CAD more than the XR, I know where I'd put my hard-earned cash.

Passat owners - I hear the car comes equipped with standard raincoats

Default Re: 2007 Aura XR vs 2007 Passat 3.6 VR6

I'm probably biased, but I think the last VW worth the asking price was the Beetle, or maybe the 1st generation Scirocco. We talk about labor overhead forcing up the price of American vehicles, but the cost of Euopean labor is sky high...but the month long vacations must be nice.

I dunno...comparing the two...I think I'd still rather have the Passat (2.0T variation).

Mmmm...turbocharged

Yep. A simple ECU flash and the 2.0T will have the same HP and more torque (252hp and 303ft/lbs) than the GM 3.6L V6. It also gets better gas mileage if you care about that sort of thing (22/31).

Cheers,

Happens to the best of manufacturers, but still nothing for the elves from the Black Forest to be proud of:

Volkswagen recalls 62,000 Passats in U.S., Canada
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Volkswagen of America Inc. said on Friday it would recall 62,000 Passat sedans and wagons from the 2006 and 2007 model years in the U.S. and Canada because of potential problems with wiper motors or braking in cold weather.

Volkswagen (VOWG.DE: Quote, Profile , Research) said it would begin to notify the vehicle owners in January about the recall. On some vehicles, a power brake vacuum line could fracture at low ambient temperatures and require increased effort to stop.
