Default AM Radio Problem AURA 2007 XE

When on AM Band, sometimes the signal almost dies, very weak only picks up stations with 5 miles. This is intermittent, when it happens I can turn the rear window defogger on and the AM pops back to normal, 8 out 10 times this works. It may be good for a long time. It even does this if the car is not moving, so that should eliminate vibration causing it.

When it is screwed up the FM band is normal, does not effect it.

The dealer has updated the computer in the car. But it still happens.

Any ideas, the only thing I can think of is the radio is bad...

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

If the last 8 digits of your VIN is earlier (lower) than 7F257130 there is a TSB #07-08-44-006A for reprogramming the radio for an AM reception issue.

There are also a couple of other generic GM TSBs (not Aura specific) That references details for diagnosis & repair of radio issues involving the rear defrost system. On "some" Auras (those without U71 option) the AM antenna is integral with the rear defrost grid system
