Question 2001 Saturn L300 - v6 3.0 Liter (L81) - Drive Belt Pulleys (Names & Locations)

Hey everyone!

In preparations of my timing belt job coming up in the next couple months; I am preparing to remove all the oil behind the pulleys on the drive belt.

Looking at a diagram of the drive belt I will list the components starting with the Alternator Pulley.

Going clock-wise from Alternator Pulley as #1:

~ 1 - Alternator Pulley
~ 2 - Belt Tensioner
~ 3 - (Upper Far Right) - Unknown to me
~ 4 - A/C Compressor Clutch Pulley
~ 5 - (Bottom Middle) - Unknown to me
~ 6 - (Top Middle) - Unknown to me

If anyone has this information and would fill me in. I would appreciate it.

I am prepping the Torque ft. and socket sizes for an easier time completing these job(s).

Best Regards,

~ Brandon

I just wanted to close this thread with what I believe to be accurate torque specifications for each pulley.

#1 - Generator (Alernator) Pulley - 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)

#2 - Drive Belt Tensioner - 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)

#3 - Power Steering Pulley - 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)

#4 - A/C Compressor Clutch Pulley - 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)

#5 - Crankshaft Pulley - 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.)

#6 - Water Pump Pulley - 8 Nm (71 inch. lbs.) * Confused on this one. Perhaps I read it wrong.

I do not know the socket sizes for each of these bolts and how many; otherwise I would include that information also.

#5 Crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer is extremely difficult to remove! Mine was rusted on and it took days to get it to separate. Some other pulleys were difficult, but nothing like this was. You could get lucky and it falls right off without the bolts. Good luck!

Did you use PB blaster or something to let them soak for days? The A/C compressor clutch pulley seems to require some special tool. I have to look more into this on alldata while I have off Library COVID-19 access.

Perhaps it does come off easy; with all that baked oil; doubtful. It's going to be nice to be able to clean this side up nicely before the rest of the repairs and / or preventive maintenance (depending on the timing belt situation).

Have a good night.

Cheers

~ Brandon

You don't need to remove the A/C pulley, it is not in the way to replace the timing belt.
