Default Code P0341 - Saturn SL1

I'm getting code P0341. I reset it. It comes back. I googled for a solution. Found tips about corroded ignition coil ground. Took everything apart, cleaned all corrosion, changed spark plugs.

The code is still here. What else can I do to fix that P0341 ?

Check the plug wire connection/routing. Do you have OEM style plugs and wires, no go-fast non-resistor stuff? Try swapping the coils; not likely the problem, but easy to do.

After that, diagnosis gets tougher. It could be the ICM, PCM, or wiring/connectors related to those two; but most likely of those is the ICM. Visually check wiring for obvious problems, of course, but replacing the ICM is probably the most practical next step.

Thanks for reply

I just replaced an ignition wire-set (Life-Time Warranty). The P0341 code is cleared now. So looks like I had problem with ignition wire(s) - in addition to corroded ICM grounding bolts.

Is there a way to test the ignition wire with Ohm-meter ? What would be the OK resistance for ignition wire ?

What is a good brand for ignition wire-set ? LTW set they gave me (Car-Quest 35-4122) looks very cheap. I'd like to buy a better one.

here is the search from Amazon. Anyone has good experience with any of these?

Resistor-type wires are generally 5000-10,000 ohms/foot. There are other types of wires good for EMI suppression that may quite a bit less in DC resistance, but I don't know if they effect the Saturn's "cam signal" generation in the ICM.

I gotta ask... if the ones you have are working OK, why are you already searching for replacement? Cheap-looking or not, give them a chance.

Billr, thanks for info.

May be I just keep those chip wires... the engine is running smoother with these new wires, feels like more horse-power.

I'm just curious: if wire-set replacement did fix the P0341 code - than means I had weak spark... I replaced all 4 spark plugs today and all 4 looked the same: just normal wear-out. Should there be one with typical "weak-spark" signs ?

The plugs might not look any different if a wire or two was bad. Spark from bad wires would be poor mostly had high engine loads, like wide-open-throttle. Most driving is not done at that condition. Most of the time the cylinders would burn all the same and color the plugs the same. But, you may notice power is poor during acceleration or going up steep grades and engine load is high...

Wires are a known issue. My engine was missing when I first got my car last year. I replaced the plugs, wires, and cleaned up the ICM and coils, and that fixed it. I bought United's more expensive wires through Rockauto. I would have gotten NGK, but I didn't want blue wires. I believe my wires, and plugs were original to the car, or had been replaced by a dealer.... many miles ago.

Our cars use regular non-platinum plugs so they can go bad sooner than what's typical in most cars today that run longer lasting plugs. Our ignition systems don't like the fancier plugs.
