2005 VUE 3.5L
Happy Questions about the Different Years of the L300

Alright for all you L300 owners, or those who know alot about the L's...

what is the difference between the 2002 and 2003's..anything major or better improvements..

does the 2002's have any major problems or issues that would make you not want to have one... or that you would warn someone about before they got one...

What year of L300's do you recommend over the others..and what year would you avoid or not recommend to anyone

thanks!

The main difference between the 2002 and 2003 is cosmetic: The front and rear are completely restyled and the interior fabric is different. Also, the interior dash color and trim is updated. From a mechanical standpoint, it is the same from 2000 - 2003. Another difference is that for 2003, ABS is optional... 2002 it was standard.

Both are available with 0% financing for 5-years so if you have a choice, it's a matter of which one you like the looks of better.

The front springs were raised, and I believe the ride was softened on the 2003 models.

That's right, with the deception of new skin, most mechanical stuff remain the same.

Is the Headcurtains standard on '03 like in '02 too? ABS + TC is not already....

VTHOKIE is right, front springs are raised a bit (Or rear springs are Lowered?) to make the car looks more horizontal on ground. Some unknown/hidden corners maybe cut in '03 L (Height adjustable seat is one thing?) But the Trunklid has gained a trunkliner(soft cover) in '03 though.
Silver Gauge clusters (w/ 20mph increment) is standard in '03 too.....

Radio Antenna has moved to Rooftop in '03, more Euro look.

Any more things?

If you like the old G1 style L300, the 2002 is your best bet as they seemed to have fixed alot of little pesky issues from previous models.

However, the 2001 seems to be pretty trouble free as well, but not quite as trouble free as the 02.

The 00 had some issues, but we still have a few members on the board that are happy with thie 00.

As for the 2003:

-Softer springs
-Softer valved struts
-Raised 7mm in the front and dropped 9mm in the rear
-Numerous cosmetic changes including new front and rear
-Color cordinated bottom molding (previously it was always black only)
-Interior has quite a few styling changes as well (White face gauges, new fabric pattern, etc.)
-Many things standard in the 02 are now available as options

I also happen to be a happy 2000 LS2 customer. I haven't had any issues with mine (except the steering rack, but who hasn't had that!?). Everything else is great with the car. Almost 40K miles and still runs like it was brand new.

the L300 is a great car..and doesnt break the bank when you buy one fully loaded.

I am still enjoying every bit of the engine/transmission to this very day...

"I am still enjoying every bit of the engine/transmission to this very day..."

Ditto.

Handling too. Even with the Affinity HPs, the car handles well. Even had a week of rain a week or so ago (this is rare here) and I thought the car even handled well in the rain. The traction control worked better than expected.

With the ocean of 240+ hp cars out there, seems odd that a little old 182hp Saturn could hang with most of them. I still wonder if the powertrain was an accident. Also, why did Saturn themselves rate it at like 8.8 in the 0-60 ?

The only thing I don't like about the car is that it begs to be driven fast between like 55-90 and I'm worried it'll get me snagged by the law one of these days.

I believe the weight (3200lbs for V6 only) also has something to do with the Performance surprise.

Hey, I've got the same issue too......Complained this to the dealer and they said "It's Normal, we can't cover this under warranty!"........Just "Slow-down!"

GM/Saturn ranked the car at 8.2 seconds.

Edmunds: 7.3 / 15.5
Road and Track: 7.6 / 15.8

another publication put it at 7.5, another at 7.4

Maybe saturn corp forgot to turn off traction control

Yeah I would have to agree with the driving fast thing. 90 is very very smooth in the L300. And 75 at 2600 is just "natural" for it. I don't even have to touch the gas for it to get up that high :P
