Default Replaced the Fishing Pole Antenna

Hi ALL, GTRik from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

I put a request in to the Tech forum, about information swapping out the stock antenna to a GM "stubby" antenna. I was able to quickly figure out the wiring and placement, after a couple trips to the auto wreckers. About $20 in total, including two antennas.

Just thought I would share the visual on the general forum (via the link below). This was a fairly east mod to do, and is an interesting alternative to the "Shark Fin Capper" mod!

By the way, is there any way to post the same picture in two forums?

Like it! It looks better than the stock antenna.

I'd like to replace my antenna. Will any later model GM antenna work or does it need specific specs?

There's a shark fin antenna i posted a while back. Do a quick search and you will find my post about it this year. You have to email the company but they can make one and they paint it for $90 if you want to pony up...

If you are satisfied with the base and just want a shorter extension, then most M6 fittings should work. This antenna base appears shared with the Saturn Outlook and GM sister SUV's. That part is shown below and can be found for less than $10 if you look a while on Amazon and EBay:

If the base gasket is wasted, replacements can be found for about the same price on the British Ebay.co.uk. My repair using a similar part is here:

Best of luck.

Thanks for the link. The base on mine looks like it's spent, well, 12 years in the sun. Might think about replacing it.

Sadly I'm starting to see some somewhat significant clearcoat bubbling on my rear bumper cover. Looking to get a quote from a nearby shop to claybar the cover and respray clearcoat; the base still looks ok.

I put some silicone caulking around the base of my antenna to avoid the hassle. Seems to last about a year.

If you are going to spray the bumpers, note that the front bumper just under the headlights seems to have very thin paint. Check that out. If you don't want to spend much money, you might try plastidip spray DIY. Not sure how it would come out.
