Honestly have no clue. Bought car, supposedly had 121k. Year before when it was registered it has 119k thru DMV. Engine had 45k-49k miles on it (that I verified). Cluster had been swapped to a DOHC so I have no idea, but figure at least 150k miles now. I replaced cluster with a sohc that had 84k miles on it, so if I add the difference, around 150k now. Engine has about 75k on it.

Needless to say it's mileage exempt.

98SL 157k. Original engine, trans, clutch. 1quart of dino 5W-30 every 4000-4500 miles. 36-41MPG. Other than a couple of sensors, tensioner, right front axle, instrument cluster, maintenance items etc., everything is original. I also run 1 pint of MMO in crankcase and 4 ounces in the gas tank at fillup. Ran mobil 1 for the first 100k or so. Don't know if that is the reason for longevity so far, but it sure didn't hurt. My theory is if you never let them run low on oil or overheat the motor, they will not turn into oil burners! I am sure there are exceptions.

Default Re: how many miles do you have on your saturn?

My SW1 ran for 236,000 before the engine suddenly started burning massive amounts of oil. (5W-30). Original engine and clutch… also original ECTS!

I abused the car for many years by running it 10K between oil changes and pulling a trailer weekly.

As soon as it gets a little warmer here in Mi, I’ll pull the engine and investigate problem. I want to run the car for another 250K miles before I give up.

My 95 SL1 has 197,285 miles and will turn over 200,000 sometime in May (I drive minimum of 45 miles/day if I only go to work and home again, so by that logic it'll be 60 days, but I'm probably going to Duluth on Friday so that'll be aboot a week's worth right there). I will drive it to literal death, I love my little car and I get better mileage than anyone I know except the one friend of my mom's who has a prius (Christ, I really hope her batteries don't ever die. They cost a fortune to replace and the car won't go around the block without them...)

We have three all over 100,000km.

99 SL1 200,890 km having emissions problems. Blown engine at 150,000 replaced with wrecker motor with lower km. Clutch at 160,000. Uses 1 L of oil every 2000 km. bought new. Bought used w/100,000 km.

99 SL2 187,000 km uses 1 L of oil every 1500-2000 km due for clutch soon.

00 SL2 191,000 km had head gasket done under warranty. Burns 1 L every 5000 km. Original battery finally failed yesterday.... bought new.

My 98 SL2 has 215,000 miles on it. Runs well. Since I bought my Vue it now gets some rest. Now I drive it a couple of days a week to give it some light exercise.
Burns very little oil, in fact since I replaced the cam cover gasket I'm not losing any oil now. Yes I change the oil every 3,000 miles and check it regularly.

'95 SL2 with 175k miles and newer engine and transmission. The engine was replaced @ 100k miles due to low oil. Transmission was replaced @ 160k Miles due to a succession of accidents with the transmission cover.

Mods to this car: Bypass filters on transmission and engine, external cooler for transmission, HAI and PCV catch can. Hoping to put another 200k miles without a major auto accident.

'92 SL1 bought @ 207k now with 209k miles and supposedly with the original engine and transmission but the engine leaks a bunch of oil.

Lol, well, most people know about Trinity, my little frankenstein 93 SL. The powertrain is from a 99 SC2m, and, oddly enough, is within 3/10 of a mile of the actual original mileage on the body, so I count them together. Anyway, 99 DOHC, original, 155,799 as of this evening. I burn about 1/4 quart a day, (100 miles or so). It guzzles it, but hey, it's running fine, and at 37.5 mpg's, I'm not worried about buying more oil all the time, for now. Next spring I am planning on grabbing a Jasper .020 overbore long block to replace the quickly aging engine I'm using now. For some reason (cough, lead foot, cough), engines don't last long around me, even though I routinely maintain them. Sure, I could get 300K out of it, but I'd rather not. It's time for a fresh new start for my Saturn. All in all though, I'm still happy with it. Needs more power, and I have neither the time nor money (3 kids) to do it, so it'll have to wait. But I've got a 95 lower front fascia, and a DOHC rear swaybar setup waiting to be put on, both of which I got for free (thanks Matt), so it's a work in progress, as it will probably be for the rest of my life. Never thought I'd be keeping an old 1st Gen base model alive as long as I have. Life is full of surprises, and until I an afford the NEXT generation Astra, hopefully with the 2.0L turbo engine this time, I won't be buying anything new. God I'm such a cheapskate. Typical Saturn owner.

I've got a 1993 SL2 that is approaching 125,000 miles. Does anyone know what the typical lifespan is for an SL in terms of years/miles? Looks like I am on the low side for mileage compared to others here, but 15 years seems like a pretty respectable age!

Answer: 270 000 km = 167.770 mi.
OR 167 mi. and 1355.590 yrd

Heck, it seems like more in kilometers, if I can get this lumpy idle/running figured out I think I can get the little bugger round the clock again.

Had a headgasket done nine years ago, had to replace the intake gasket three years ago or so, two starters, driver's seat back frame, two driver's door window regulators, ECTS three years ago, purge solenoid for the charcoal system, tie rod ends a few years ago.......other than that, tires and plugs and wires and brakes......easiest car on the wallet I ever owned, and it still looks good.

130,000 miles on our 97 SC1 bought new in late 96.
Car still looks great despite spending its life in high school & college dorm parking lots.
The engine cradle is showing some corrosion on the driver's side (no oil leaks over there ) but I'm expecting at least 10 more years service.
