Dizzy overhead consoles?

does anyone know of any overhead console that have the temp sensor in the overhead unit instead of under the hood im looking to put a suburan overhead console or explorer console in my 98 sl2 and want the temp gauge but dont want to have to pull the sensor with the console and have to wire it up, or maybe a universal compass/temp reader that will fit in its place and look factory?

Welcome to the Forum.
Am I reading you correctly, engine temp, not ambient temp?

Overhead console from Suburban's don't have engine temp displays that I am aware of. Sure, like many cars these days, the rear view mirror displays outside ambient temperature, but where have you seen what you want?

I've owned 5 suburbans, and currently have 2 but none had what you want as a option.

You can't get outside air temp with a inside sensor...what good is a inside temp sensor when it's not controlling the HVAC?

You can take a rearview mirror from '99-'02 Silverado (and I assume similar trucks) to get Temp/Compass/Auto-Dim in the rearview, just need to borrow power/ground from the cabin light wires. The compass and auto-dim work fine with just power/ground hooked up, the temp sensor needs to be wired to have it display something more useful than OC (Open Connection).

Everyone I've seen has the ambient temp sensor just behind the grill at the front. It shouldn't be hard to pull and you can run new wire to save time pulling it. If I recall correctly it's not that complicated.

As far a Suburbans go, I've owned a 2001, 2005 and currently a 2011. In the 2 GMT830s (1999-2006) the display was in the rear view mirror and in the GMT930s (2007-2014) they are in the gauge cluster. In the current Suburban platform I understand it is integrated into the central stack radio display. I prefer the mirror if I had a choice but the centre stack would probably be good too.

that what i mean is the temp sensor thats under the hood behind the grille not inside the car lol i read this wiring guide for a explorer ohc install in a bronco just tapping into power and wiring the sensor and all worked even had the wire color coding to what they are.
