2004 VUE 2.2L
Default Slave Cylinder Or Master Cylinder?

Anyway to diagnose between the 2 before I start buying parts? Pedal goes to the floor, but I'm not losing any fluid anywhere.

Unplug the hydraulic hose where it plugs into the transmission slave cylinder.. You remove a clip and the connector will come off.

Gently, attempt to press the clutch pedal. If it wont move, you have a bad slave. if it goes to the floor easily, you have a bad master.

The hose connector that plugs into the slave cylinder has a check valve in it. This prevents fluid from leaking out when its disconnected. This is why the pedal shouldn't move when the hose is disconnected, because the fluid can't go anywhere..

WARNING - DO NOT press hard on the pedal, as you will break the plunger, then you will be replacing the master cylinder assembly

In this photo, you can see the clip that you need to remove to release the hose connector.. This portion of the slave cylinder stick out from the bell housing and your hose plugs into this.

After you remove the hose, re-install the clip. The hose will push back in and the clip will catch it.

DO NOT press the pedal hard. You shouldn't put any more pressure on the pedal than is normally required.

I'd recommend cleaning the slave area with brake cleaner or something before disconnecting. That way the area will be clean when you re-install.

When I replaced my clutch and slave, it was because the slave blow out and dumped fluid all over the place..

Good luck.

Default Re: Slave Cylinder Or Master Cylinder?

With the line disconnected, the pedal went to the floor with almost zero effort, and just a tiny dribble of fluid came out of the line. I would say the m/c is bad and will replace. Don't know if the slave is bad or not, but a new m/c will be the first move.

Thanks again for the help waiter.
