Default Exploring an Abandoned Saturn Dealership

Found this the other day and thought I'd share. Kind of sad but also interesting.

https://youtu.be/jA-q83rxhdk

I remember the day my parents bought the SW1 I'm driving now. Bought new in '97. I was five or six at the time. I'm happy she's still with me and going strong!

That brings back a lot of memories. They were all built the same. Saturn dealerships were all set to all be remodeled to a new style til gm went bankrupt..

I always admired the Saturn branding and dealership architecture. It all seemed so futuristic and unique. It was the Tesla of its day (sans weird defects like randomly exploding glass and spontaneous combustion that Teslas have )

Something I realized is the logo seems awfully reminiscent of the NASA logo...

That's a whole lot fancier (and larger) than the closest dealership to me was.

@ 0:17 , Architect out-of-control! No engineers were consulted in the supporting of this canopy extension.
(Canopies designed to “draw you into the space”.)
They are good buildings. Be happy that they were repurposed.

Checkered Flag Re: Exploring an Abandoned Saturn Dealership

Some years ago I photographed the sign in front of Saturn of Farmington Hills, MI when I was visiting relatives there. I did not have time to go around back, look inside, etc.

You can PM me for photos, but image quality isn't perfect (the Canon S3IS sensor was poor by today's standards).

I heard somewhere in the back of my mind that the canopy area or some other specific area was referred to as the ‘Launch Pad’ where the customer picked up their new car. Here they would take the Polariod picture of you and your new Saturn. At our retailer in Fairfield, Connecticut this was a glass cube added to an existing building. The one time I remember getting that treatment I posed at the side of the building. I guess the launch pad was preoccupied at the time.

Another theory is that it’s the Saturn rocket circling the moon. I’ve always just seen it as the planet though. It’s pretty minimalistic though, so why not both lol
