Loose steering may be caused by a deteriorating condition with the rack and pinion gear, worn tie rod ends, badly worn rack and pinion mountings, and sometimes even worn CV axles.

1) Are the struts in good condition?
2) What is the condition of the engine cradle? (Has it ever been removed and reinstalled for any reason?)

This kind of noise may relate to a bad CV joint. To test CV joints, go to a place where you have plenty of room to execute hard left and right turns in both forward and reverse directions. Lower the driver and passenger windows and listen for the clicking noise and which side it may emanate from. If this is the cause then the sound will be reasonably strong and very metallic in quality.

1) How long ago?
2) Who installed them?
3) Was the vehicle aligned afterwards? Tire wear as described above indicates a bad alignment condition. See the descriptions in the link below.

Can you go back through your repair records to confirm this either way? To the greatest degree possible, provide as much specificity about the repair history of your car with regard to this suspension and tire wear problem.

Lastly, repost this message in the S-Series Forum. It will receive many more helfpul responses if you do so.
