Thats just wrong! You can't do that, there are still possibilities without a tuner.

I'm just tired of all the crap right now. I figure, get into motorcycles for a while, when I check back in a few months/years from now, there will be plenty, and then I'll build my Ion up to be a real monster.

I'm not sure how much gain you can really make via calibration changes on a naturally aspirated motor without also changing hardware parts too. Most of the gains you read about via tuning are cranking up turbo boost and other changes that add fueling to go with it.

Ionben570, are you aware of asking questions in a thread started in '06, 14 years ago that hasn't been answered at all? All idle speculation. The 2.2L GM ecotec engine is used in several models. None are super or turbo charged from the factory.
The 2.0L engine is the only factory turbocharged engine in a small block. There's more to super or turbo charging engines than just adding boost. Quite a bit more than most diyers are willing to learn. Unfortunately, the majority that make attempts learn the hard way as most engines are blown from not spending time to understand major differences between naturally aspirated and boost in a custom setup. In addition to having access to the ecm or pcm (if they're not locked permanently as most Saturn engine computers are), assumptions of access to 2.2L ecm may reveal another major issue - they're not accessible otherwise this thread would have revealed it back in '06). Locking an ecm usually means an alternate way around it by piggy backing an aftermarket computer or starting from scratch, eliminating the factory ecm and wiring in an aftermarket ecm that's completely tunable at higher cost. With EFI systems. the map sensor is crucial to factory n/a engines as well as factory boosted engines except boost uses a different map sensor. If you don't know about vacuum in n/a engines and then boosting with positive pressure requiring a different map sensor as well as access to the ecm for tuning then you're already behind the learning curve. Try keeping a perspective. In 14 years, no one found a way to break the 2.2L ecm for boost. You can always search other GM forums for models using the same 2.2L engine and see if anyone has more info. And then search for GM forums using the 2.0L factory boosted engine and if any tunes were made for additional power. |
