How how hard is it to replace the dash? At the junkyard I looked.. and it didnt look to easy. Mine was ripped up by the previous owner. Thanks.

Your judgement was correct - it isn't easy to remove the dash. I attempted to do it at a self-service wrecking yard, but time was running out and I couldn't access the wiring I wanted without ruining the dash to do so. So I ruined the dash and got the wiring out before the yard closed.

Do you have access to some type of repair manual for your car?

No but just looking at the area behind the cluster looked to involved. It also looks like the steering column might have to be removed.

Okay, so what is it that you're needing to accomplish?

Default Re: Lw200 dashboard removal?

Most dashboards these days when the car is being manufactured are installed as whole unit and then connected up to the various electrical connectors. I suspect the L series dash is like that. I have a Haynes Manual and it gives NO instructions on removing the whole dash.

By contrast, the S series latter years you can remove the dash top easily. My own Suburban has a detachable dash top too. So maybe looking closely you may be able to see whether the L series is like that as well.
The only advice I can give you is to delve more into your won dash and how its connected. It is easy to remove the dash cluster, glove box and lower trim panels and the center unit with the switches on just unclips. If you pull some of those bits and try and look with a torch, you may be able to see how the whole dash unit is attached to the car.

Sorry can't be of any more help.

What a dumbie I was , you'd mentioned in the OP what had happened to the dash. In my 2000 L-Series FSM there are instructions regarding the removal and reinstallation of the instrument panel (what we call the dash). It's twenty five pages of step by step instructions with related drawings. If you'd like to have copies send me a private message and let me know. If you wish to have them then please be patient with me, these aren't PDFs. It takes a while to make decent copies of these pages because this particular volume of the FSM is an inch and a half thick.

25 pages! Yikes!!!!! I'm going to play around at the upull..and see if its doable..The hardest part looks like the area behind the gauges. Theres a large metal plate and almost no room for the dash to slide over the column.. ugh.. thanks so much!

I like that idea, it makes sense to me.

According to the FSM, the center console must first be removed and later the steering wheel must be removed along with the column mounted switches. It states "Position steering column to its lowest position." Based on the pictures presented on the same page and on following pages that does not mean lowering the whole column. Instead it appears that the tilt mechanism should be placed at its lowest position. All pictures show the whole column otherwise remaining as installed. Nevertheless, if you need to lower the whole column it is not difficult at all. One bracket holds it up in place. Don't allow the column to separate from the intermediate shaft which connects it to the rack and pinion gear and be wary of running afoul of wiring.
