2002 L-Series 2.2L Sedan
Default won sts again sunday...

i extended my points lead in a very close race sunday in deland.

2nd place (an older gti on coilovers) and 3rd place (a rsx type s on race springs) were both 0.1 behind me. the rsx will have coilovers soon (has them but hasn't had the time to install them), but my car was also way way out of alignment. there was alos another almost identical gti owned by the other gti driver's son, a 93 civic si, a great looking mazda 3, and a mazda protege wagon.

the track was set up awsome! everyone loved it! it was very fast but there was never a place where u could take 3rd gear. it was also a very hard track to figure out... give me another 4 laps and i would take atleast another second off.

the 615's were amazing! i was able to save my car from spinning that i would never have been able to save with any other tire ive ever used. i mean i had it a past 90deg angle and made all the course workers run for cover, but i saved it, stayed on course, didnt hit any cones... and was still less than a second slower than my other laps.

one of my s2000 friends got a lot of pics of me with his slr so when he gives them to me ill post them up. actually his wife has the s2000 he has a chevy ssr that i rode in... its funny cuz that thing will do something to make u say "this isnt that bad" then half a second latter make u go "this thing is heavy as crap!" lol his best was a 44something and it was his first autox, and in a truck (kind of) lol

on a side note a mazda speed 3 showed up and raced novice... destroyed most of the freaking field. i ran a 40.5 that thing ran a 37 something.

Same here, I torched the STS this Sunday and took points lead in our region. The other 2 STS cars (a quick Prelude and a built up Ford Focus) were 2+ seconds behind. The car is epic right now. The suspension is just about right on and going for the extra width in the tires has helped a lot. Overheating the 615s is pretty hard right now. The more I drive the current car setup the more I like it. It is seriously quick.

I had a friendly bet with a G Stock runner that tends to have faster times than me and out ran him by a little over a second. He has to wear a Saturn shirt to the next event now.

I pulled top 5 Pax out of 60 some cars. It was probably my best race ever.

Good job on winning.

I watched my first auto cross on Sunday. The track design seemed suited only to the Miata's that were there. A guy in a 200sx either pulled something outta his *** or there was a timing/recording error to get the win in Class 1(A) though. I had thought my SC1 would have done well if I had actually run...but defiantly not with the modified Miata's there and the skill of most people there. Sucks that the guy with a '92 SC (only one in my region I know of) lives 3+ hours away from where it was held, I'd have loved to see 'em have a go.

If you see the Honda and want to exit the team-crm site don't be in such a hurry. Check out the cars, photos and video's, his car this year is a '93 SC-2, and his car from 2 years ago was a '93 SW-2.

You guys can't get much front camber? I'll have to convert my measurments into degrees, but I am pretty sure I have at least 1.5 degrees just using the GR-2s with the stock springs.

One thing I did was actually pry the top mounts over while tightening down the mounting nuts. The other thing is to loosen up the lower strut bolts and then put a jack under the rotor and compress the strut and push it hard in towards the car. This will give you as much static negative camber as possible without additional grinding.

In STS you can slot those top strut mount bolt holes more (you cannot touch the big hole however.) That can give you a little more camber and caster. Camber plates would be an easier but more expensive way to achieve the same effect.

Quote:
14.8.C
The following allowances apply to strut-type suspensions. Adjustable
camber plates may be installed at the top of the strut and
the original upper mounting holes may be slotted. The drilling of
holes in order to perform the installation is permitted. The center
clearance hole may not be modified. Any type of bearing or bushing
may be used in the adjustable camber plate attachment to the
strut. The installation may incorporate an alternate upper spring
perch/seat and/or mounting block (bearing mount). Any ride
height change resulting from installation of camber plates is allowed.
Caster changes resulting from the use of camber plates
are permitted.
PS - I did convert the measurements on the SW2 (Eibachs + GR-2s on front). I had to take out a bunch of camber to get to -1.5 degrees. I decided -1.5 would be a conservative street setting. You really want at least -3 degrees for competition.

Heh,

After looking at CRM I see that I'm not the only one that is running an illegal STS car. Most of his cars are illegal from what I understand.

His Honda has a crank pulley. Accesory pulleys are legal crank pulleies aren't.

His Saturn SW2 is running an aftermarket radiator.

His SL2 is running titanium valve retainers.

His SC2 is quite awesome. He is running nearly the same sway bar setup as I am. His car is dailed in a bit more aggressively though. That thing is probably a beast. It doesn't say if it is STS or not. But if so than that seat, possibly the steering wheel (can't remember when airbags started shipping) and the replacement larger cat (arguable) would be illegal.

Not to be one that would pee in the pool yet not swim in it, my car is illegal too. I have a replacement cat that is 2.5 inches, I deleted the first cat, and I'm running rear discs.

For all of his car and mine there is only a moron could jump in and claim that ours cars have performance above what is expected from a STS car. Other than his honda hatch, none of his cars are considered hot cars for STS.

RGRSCCA got the pics up from Sunday. Aty some point I lost a little platic retainer on the under car air dam. The course was super dirty, we had to hire a sweeper to come and clean a lot of the pavement.

14.2.B
The driver and front passenger seats may be replaced, with the following restrictions: The seating surface must be fully upholstered: The top of the seat, or an attached headrest, may not be below the center of the driverís head. The seat, including mounting hardware, must weigh at least 25 pounds and must be attached using the OE body mounting holes/studs. Additional mounting points may be added.
And I highly recommend getting an alternate driver seat like his Sparco or a Corbeau Forza or something similar. The factory seats isolate you too much from the chassis. A good seat will keep your butt and the chassis on the same page instead of having to react to the chassis after it does something out of the ordinary.

Airbags were still an option in '93, so it's possible his didn't have one.
