so my 99 sc1 w/209k is showing some wear in the seat department, more so on the drivers seat than the passenger, which looks almost new in comparison. to me the seat covers/cushions/padding look very similar from left to right.
anyone know if the covers and padding will actually swap? or at least reasonably nicely... w/o some big spot left exposed or fitting very poorly. does the drivers seat belt support up on the seat back cause issues? is it part of the seat back frame or unbolt? need hog rings when i do this? |

The passenger seat is a bit wider then the driver seat. Dunno if it makes a huge difference with the covers & padding or not, you could probably fix it easy enough with hog ring's & pliers.

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:) |

someone added padding to their driver seat fairly recently. they sandwiched a 1" piece of new foam in between two pieced of thin cardboard, squeezed, and used the cardboard to slide the new foam under the worn foam, then pulled the cardboard out when positioned.

update
99sc1, manual seats, 3door, 209k mi swap is done. easy to do as could be asked for. bottom cushion swaps left to right as soon as the tracks are unbolted from it. the seat back cover/padding are removed from the frame, and a small section of padding cut out for the drivers seat belt guide. 2 hog rings are used on each seat back. didnt know that the covers were glued onto the padding, at least the backs are, didnt have the bottoms taken apart at all. while the main reason i swapped was because i had started to wear a hole on the outer edge of the drivers seat back cover. i had also noticed the padding was squished down more than the passenger side. so now the seat itself is noticeably more comfortable, and the seat covers get a big boost in the mileage they will wear for. there was an unintended consequence however. while i knew the padding was worn, the change went beyond optimal and a bit into 'booster chair' territory. at least for someone at 6-1, this would probably just be an added bonus for short enough drivers that really want a lil more height. |
