I bought a 1996 SC1 2door last weekend for $400. It looked like hell and drove just as bad.
With the help of the SUPER members on this forum and Richpin's videos, I've made this car drive like new again. The previous owner neglected the car like you can't believe, here's what I've done so far: The P.O. told me he only added oil about every 5k miles for the last year or so. ![]() I flushed the old brownish coolant and added new coolant/water at about a50/50 mix. I charged the A/C system with R134 freon and added a can of oil also. It will freeze you out now. Changed the brass Temp sensor thing (forget the name) to help lower the idle. Will change the T-stat this coming weekend to get the temp up to 1/2 way on guage insted of 1/4. I lost 2nd, 4th, & reverse a few days after I bought it. It had bee a pain to get into the gears before that also. I did some seaches and read lots of threads and checked out the bushing/ball under the shifter. It was new, so I looked under the hood and it was the horsehose clip that holds the shift cable. I went to Saturn dealer, got the horeshoe clip for $10 and asked for a free Saturn hat they had in the dispaly case. ![]() When I got the clip on I made sure it was shifting ok then changed the trans fluid to Mobil1 Dex5 synth. I also sucked some of the whitish clutch fluid and poured some fresh DOT3 in. WOW, it clutches & shifts like a new car now!! All in all, I am in love with this little car!! Thanks!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
