Default What tires are everyone using?

My old standby Falken's aren't available in my area anymore.

What's everyone else using these days? I'm only sitting in mediocre commute traffic, so I really don't need anything fancy - just long tread life and low cost that I can put toward other repairs.

One option I came up with is CooperTire Evolution Tour - anyone tried those? Currently $55 apiece + installation

Long tread, great handling, but high cost ='s Michelin Defender's.
I have used these on virtually all my vehicles since around 2010.

Got them on the SL1, SW2, son's Edge, friends Rogue and 1 Suburban Z71.
No air losses, no failures ever.

I get solarus from fleet farm. I think its 120 for all four tires including the installation.

They do horrible in any sort of snow or ice.

Once was going down the highway with these on and went across where the water had melted and froze again at night. Hit that went sideways and then did three 360's across dry pavement and into the snowbank. They do well in rain though

Im always looking for tires that are round and dont vibrate like a p.o.s. at highway speeds. Cold front inflation pressures less than 37 psi would be a plus. Tread on-the-ground width that matched the original 1998 Saturn Assembly Plant tire tread on-the-ground width would also be a plus. It used to be that the tread was as wide as the flanges of the alloy wheel.

I run a set of 195/60 R15 88H Kumho Solus TA31. They are okay and suck in the winter, they weren't the cheapest but weren't the most expensive when I bought them. Been thinking about getting some cheap winter tires on some steelies

The SC gets Tiger Paws. Quiet, good handling, good braking. Wet or dry. Not the best in deep snow, but then I park the SC for winter and drive a beater Vue for that.
Don't focus just on tread life. Longer life usually means harder rubber and less traction.

(from a motorcycle forum- "black, round, and hold air")

I bought Michelins about 9 years ago. What a difference! BUT I don't drive enough any longer, to wear out the tires, before they started cracking....

Still have several thousand miles left.

The next set will be some that are much cheaper, am looking at suggestions above /\

Assuming that the wheels are not rusting inside, causing leaks...

I just had to replace the 2 newest tires on my car Because of Dryrot Cracks
in the treads!!! bummers$$

Sooooo i went to a local discount(BS) tire shop 'Mavis', and read about tire manufacturer Date stamps; i saw that every tire in the store was < 2 years old.

The last set (which cracked) were about 6 years old when i bought them.
SO, MAKE SURE WHAT YOU BUY ARE NEW, unless buy used at a junkyard.

I had learned to like Kumho, but they were the old cracked ones.

I just bought some Indonesian Mfg "Achilles" ... and i think i paid near as much as for good stuff -- with taxes & balancing, about $95 each!!!
