Default Need New Struts/Coil

So I just bought my first saturn. I am loving it for commuting, however the struts are shot. It's got 196k miles on it, so I was just going to replace the struts and coils at the same time. I have found a few kits that come with struts and coils and everything all together and would like to try those. I'm looking for recommendations as to what the best route would be. Just really want it to ride like factory, dont need anything crazy and dont wanna break the bank. Thanks!

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Monroe from Rockauto for under $60 a strut would be my choice.

I'm in a similar situation, but I haven't gotten the car on the road yet. It was my sisters old car, and she tells me the rear suspension is shot. That could be just the anti-roll bar connectors, However... I found both sides broken. However ALL four struts are VERY rusty. I have not decided if I want to disassemble struts, or if I want to buy them ready to go. That's later on down the road, Though...I still have to get the engine running well, and do brakes.

On all my vehicles I have used Monroe's so when needed I finally had their quick-strut assembly put on my Saturn at 212,000 miles.

Yes, put Monroe's on 2 of my S-Series and they work well.

I just put all 4 struts on my 99 Saturn SL2. They are currently less than 25 each for just the strut. If your springs are ok (luckily mine were), just change out the strut. They also have the kits listed too.

On my '99 we reused the springs on the front. Came out good.

I also bought the Monroe assembled new struts, but haven't yet installed them.

The shocks/struts, the strut mounts, and the springs form a component suspension unit: the McPherson Strut {cheaper/lighter than some previous mechanisms}.

It is important that the strut mounts be in good condition if you just replace the springs or springs+shocks. ... I went for the assembled kit to assure i got a good new mount (and avoid assembly).

There were some early complaints about 'squeaky' operations of the Monroes, but i think that's less an issue now. They use a 'rubber' bumber between the springs & strut mount, which is novel, but being used on other new vehicles.

CHECK the pair of struts when they arrive: I got one that looked O.K., but the second seemed to have been assembled at a local shop-- the 'rubber' dust boot was poorly configured on a grommet which did not fit it, so i returned the sad one for another new one, which was good.
