Default 2001 SL2: What is this little hose?

I've got a 2001 SL2, and looking under the hood today I noticed a little hose/connector that appeared to connect some part of the alternator to another little hard plastic hose. I'm not sure what I'm looking at and haven't had much luck on Google.

Anyone know what I'm looking at?

It's the vacuum hose that runs from behind the throttle body plate to your air pump officially called the "Secondary Air injection System". It warms up your catalytic converter faster when the engine is cold to reduce emissions. I'm sure your check engine light has been on with the trouble code P0410 as well.

You can remove that rubber elbow and just connect the two hard plastic hoses using generic vacuum hose. I can't remember the size needed off the top of my head, but any auto parts store should have it.

Thank you!

I actually had that error code a few weeks ago. I reset the error codes and was waiting for codes to return so I could see what was a new code and what might have been an old code. Driven about 400 miles since I reset it and nothing has come up yet.

I ended up watching a YouTube video about the issue and it looks like
this part isn’t working.

The solenoid switch allows vacuum to pass through to the diverter valve, which opens it, allowing air from the air pump into the exhaust manifold. With the vacuum source line broken, none of this will work. Fix the vacuum line first. The solenoid switch only opens while the air pump runs (about 60 seconds on a cold start). The switch can fail, but it is not a common failure.
