Default Bonus

I just got a 92 SC2 up on the lift and looked underneath. I picked it up just for the engine - to transplant into our 92 - which burns oil like a WWII ship convoy trying to hide from The Wolfpack....

Surprise - surprise ---

The subframe is almost new. Absolutely no structural rust - and it' s oil soaked enough that there' s very little surface rust.

I was going to pull just the engine - but now I' m thinking the whole drive train out the bottom.

98 SC2 - rusty frame minus engine.

It is remarkable how the degree of rust varies.

After my '97 engine martyred itself, i bought the first car -2000- i looked at...
because it has nearly 0 rust.

In 2008 (when i got my '97), i went to a local wrecking yard, and found a '93 with almost no rust (my '97 was pretty bad when i got it, but ran OK).

People who don't need to drive when wet/snowy/salty, and who Don't drive in those conditions ... don't rust out the cars so much.

Amazingly - the guy WAS driving it in winter.

It even came with good snow tires on the front

I'll be sticking those on my car next winter.

Boy oh boy you guys would LOVE Arizona. My '01 has no grime AND no rust on the frame. Just metal as if it was new from the factory.

Mad Re: Bonus

It just keeps getting better.

Turns out It's got all new brake components - front and rear..

And when I took off the driver's side fender liner - something fell out.

At first - I thought it was a cheap knife - as it was dirty a n d covered in rust.

A bit of wire brushing revealed - It's a Gerber mini skelotonized. All stainless. It cleaned up like new - and is still factory sharp.

I must be doing something right.
