2001 L-Series 2.2L Sedan
2003 L-Series 2.2L Sedan
Default 2.2 L200 Engine Swap.

I have a question about L Series engine swapping. will a 2001 swap out with a 2003 L200 2.2 ? I got a quote of $1075 for swapping engines from the 2003 to the '01. I can't do it here due to apartment garage regulations. It's got 198K on it and just started smoking this week. The oil was changed, by me anyway every 2 to 3K miles and was taken care of. I was just going to have the salvage yard come haul it away from the shop once they're complete, if they can be swapped. The techs weren't sure if they'll exchange or not. They would have look into it. From what I was told the computers make no difference on the same engine. They both have 4T40E transmissions. I was also told to check the PCV valve before doing anything. If they plug up it can mimic a worn engine. Thanks in advance.

Default Re: 2.2 L200 Engine Swap.

I put a 2003 engine into my 2002 with no problems, I used the 2002 exhaust manifold because the car had an electric a.i.r. injection pump. The L61 engines are the same from 2000 to 2006 in GM cars. The thermostat housings and the manifolds have minor differences. Just use the manifolds from the car you are keeping and you will be fine.

2002 L200/5 loaded, loving my stick shift car now with KYB struts and adjustable rear control arms.
