Default Repurposed Saturn Parts

Have you built anything out of Saturn parts?

I have a few things. When I part out a Saturn I keep the rear wheel bearing assemblies.

I have built a car dolly with one set (and have used it to haul more Saturns home),the second set- a small trailer for hauling a 55 gallon drum and a pump - to haul behind the quad when collecting sap for maple syrup - and a straddle gantry on 4 Saturn wheels and bearings. It's useful for many thi n gs - about 2500 lbs lift capacity. Currently it is prepped for hanging whitetail deer - for gutting, skinning and butchering.

I'm waiting to see some adventurous soul stick a 1.9 DOHC in a homebuilt airplane...

I used to build things out of Jeepster Commando parts. Most notably a trailer with Jeepster hubs. Let me use the Jeepster spare if needed.

I am not sure how the 1.9 stacks up for power to weight. Probably not great once a reduction gearbox is added.

We recently blew up our 1971 Harley Davidson Model D two stroke golf cart. Something bad happened to the primary drive. I towed it back with my '67 Wheel Horse and haven't looked at it yet. I do have a 5 speed out of a Gen 3 SL2 that is destined for my coupe someday. I'd like to take the coupe gearbox, mate it to a predator engine, and adapt it to the cart.

I dunno... The reduction gear would simply be a belt drive. Remember - drag racers have been running 200+ hp on Harley dragsters - using belt drives.

It would be interesting trying to come up with an impulse coupler (makes spark after TDC) o prevent kickback on prop starts.....

Ha that's funny.

Yah, it'll show the same as it shows in your file manager if you have thumbnails enabled. You'd have to open it on your computer and rotate it and re-save if before uploading. I take it my instructions were close enough.

Rather then kinking my neck I rotated it and here it is up-side-up. That's a pretty fine collection!

We had a sudden stoppage event and both belts were shredded. The primary drive is a ramp roller clutch. Early American CVT. My thought was to pitch the solid rear axle, use Saturn front end parts, and weld driveshafts together a la Sean R. They would probably hold up better to a predator than an LS4.

I'd like to make my own ignition for my '81 Suzuki GN 400. Microprocessor based would probably be the best.

Here is my car dolly. Bonus - when towing Saturns a spare tire is good both for the car and trailer.

Specs - 94 Wheels (repainted) and rear wheel bearings. 3 inch square tube. Fenders cut out of blue plastic 55 gallon drum. Total cost - under $300.

I have since swapped to steel wheels - so the tires are not always flat.

Edit - I suck at posting pics.

The first one us my SO - she was at the range practicing for opening day of whitetail season... .

Here's another - a mobile gantry - built for loading stripped frames onto a trailer for hauling to the scrapyard. Shown used for a secondary use - processing deer. It's also very handy for lifting 400 lbs blocks of wood onto our wood splitter.

The wheels are off a 94 SC2 - as are the wheel bearings. The I beam is a section left over from the track I installed overhead in my barn - for lifting engines up to the lofts.
