2004 ION-2 Quad Coupe
Default AEM CAI, Computer Reset

Is it really neccessary to reset the car's computer once a new intake is installed? I've noticed people speak about this before, but never understood the reasoning behind it.....what difference would it make?

By undoing the negative battery cable from the battery and attempting to crank the car, it forces the computer to go blank. When you redo the cable, the computer is forced to immediately compensate for the new values the sensors see, rather than take a week or so to come around to the fact that the car's pulling in more air than it used to. If you're impatient, undo the battery.

on my 2002 SC2, the AEM SRS instructions say to disconnect both battery cables before beginning. the PCM reset on its own since it took more than 15 minutes (or whatever the time it takes for the PCM to lose its mind) to remove the stock air box and install the SRS and reconnect the battery.

Yeah, the last time I disconnected the battery for a long time the car freaked out when I started it again. It decided to run the RPM's alot higher for the first five minutes or so with each start. It did that just about everytime I started it that day, then finally went away. I didn't even have anything electronic disconnected.

Anyways, you're saying that the computer has to adapt to the different airflow amount. Meaning that once it does it will begin putting more fuel in to compansate for the air. Correct???

Now, another question. Do these cars adapt to driving habits too?
