1995 SC2
Default Whats your gas mileage with an SC2 95-98 models

My 95 Saturn is finally back on the road after almost a year of down time. I had another engine installed from a 98 DOHC car.

So far, all is well and the car runs as well as the first date I bought it; eleven year ago last Friday

I got around 27mpg on mostly highway driving, but I expected a little more.

I will admit to having a heavy foot.
  • What mileage are you all seeing with the DOHC 95-98 cars?
  • I been told the the 95SC2 was the lightest of all Saturn. Is this true?

I've seen as high as 41 in my 97SC2. Usually get 37/38 on the highway. Usually around 35mpg combined.

Though it flys in the face of logic, the 96~97 SL2 (manual transaxle equiped) were the lightest Saturns ever built.

Question Re: Whats your gas mileage with an SC2 95-98 models

I guess I need to check my car out. My Acura TL get 28 MPG with me driving the hell out of it. I have been over 30mpg serval time on long hughway trips. It does however take 93 octance to get those numbers. This car is almost a 1000 pounds heavier and >140hp more than my Saturn.

I guess I should check to see what kind of plugs are installed

The ECTS sensor and wire are brand new. OE spark plug wires are new. fuel filter is new. All new part are Dealer parts.

Any suggestions?

98 SC2 here. It's at 107,700 miles and I've had it since 30k, and I've never seen any better than 31 and that was all highway road trip. Usual highway is 27 and city I've seen as bad as 17. This has been consistent no matter what I do, so what am I doing wrong? Should I be seeing low 30's all the time?
I am not sure it's driving habits. In fact, I still have my original brakes (although the rear wheel cylinders have been replaced twice) and inspected today at 50% remaining life.
Just cleaned throttle body, ran fuel injector cleaner, installed new plugs and wires (oem ngk gapped @ 0.40), new ects, new tts, new tires, and I still average in the low 20's. Thing is, it hasn't degraded, it's been consistently this low since I've owned it which would make me think maaaaybe it's driving habits, but my wife drove it for years like a grandma and no improvement. We're in Florida, so no hills and mostly straight driving. Could there be an adjustment I'm missing?
Perhaps Intake Air Sensor, O2 sensor, or some other sensor has always been off? No telling.

'97 sc2 @ 108k

Straight freeway gets over 38mpg. Straight city I've never done, but i'm guessing around 30 or so. With my mixed habits, it averages around 34-35.

usually i get around 38 mpg on the highway... gets slightly better when doing 55ish as opposed to doing the 80-90mph that everyone else is doing next to you
one thing that can botch your mileage is faulty exhaust. if your pipes are loud and/or your cat is due for changing, expect your mileage to go down the ****ter.
