Yes, you even included a decimal point! Hard for us folks that don't drive as much, but the 21 years ownership gives you more points than a system just based on 'miles on the odo'.

Default Re: S-Series Mileage Milestones 100k 150k 200k 250k and beyond

I'll play.... 2001 SC1, originally bought around December 2000, sold to my dad in 2003 and given to me in March 2010. VIN# says it is a 2002 model.

Next oil change is due at 178440 Miles (297400 Kilometers in Canadian miles), about 1800 miles from now. MPG has came down abruptly 1.5 years ago, but I'm currently working on it and got some of the MPG and a lot of HP back. Hoping to make it last past the 18 years, up to 20 years mark. I would love to drive it past the garage that was killing it and said it was finished (with an honor finger held up in the air) 3-4 years from now.

1997 SL1 named Cinnamon. Bartered for some website work. Owned by a mechanic before us. We are second owners. Just got 240,000 a few days ago. Original engine, transmission and clutch. Doesn't burn oil, 40mpg highway

Rolled 50k on my 2000 SL2 a few months back. Bought it with just shy of 45k in March 2015.

Just saw a CL ad for a 98 SL2 with 15k. Re-read the last sentence if necessary - there is no missing "0" as you might assume. Sub-frame was obviously rusty (thank you NY winters), but someone got a car with a lot of life left in it for under $3k.

2002 SL2
Default Re: S-Series Mileage Milestones 100k 150k 200k 250k and beyond

I've had several Saturns in recent years but haven't kept any one for very long. I've done plenty of repairs/maintenance between all of them.

Currently, I have a '02 SL2. Purchased in July of 2016 (about 4.5 months of ownership) at 149,500 miles. It now has about 154K miles, so a little over 4K miles of use. My points would be very low with the given point system.

I think it's amazing that some people can get 300,000 miles on an original engine. Some stated original radiator! Original clutch! That is very uncommon IMO. As stated above, I've had my SL2 now for only 4.5 months and it has about 154K miles on it. Thus far, I've replaced the radiator, trans cooler lines, engine & trans mounts, front AND rear brakes, entire exhaust system (excluding manifold and front O2 sensor), all the gauge cluster and HVAC backlights, and most recently the CPS. And even after all that, I will need to rebuild the engine very soon...low compression in cyl #1, oil burning, oil leaking (in numerous areas), unhealthy sounds from the timing chain and both upper & lower ends of the engine.

Don't get me wrong, I still really like these cars as they are fairly inexpensive and easy to maintain. But it seems my experiences haven't been quite as easy as others. The only two parts I can think of that I've never replaced on ANY of the Saturns I've owned is the starter and the alternator (and some various sensors).

Bachhands,
At my 200K milestone I've been through 3 starters, one serpentine belt, upper and lower control arms, and one set of coil packs/wires. Original clutch and radiator. I switched to the green stuff early in the game instead of deathcool. I may be forgetting a couple small things but that is pretty good.

I think a great radiator (for small cars like these) should last 100K or more. A good one should last around 60K - 90K miles. So if your radiator lasted 200K miles, you must have a fully aluminum radiator or just got very lucky. But I don't know...I've never had any one car long enough to see how long a new radiator lasts. The two I replaced on Saturns were Silla and Spectra Premium brands. Both worked well after installation. But I only had the Silla for about 15K miles before selling the car, and I've only had the Spectra Premium for about 5K miles on my current Saturn.

FYI ... I don't think these cars have upper control arms

I'm one of them with the original radiator, from the dealership. Original owner - only car I've owned for this long (technically, it is hard to own more than one car for over 15 years) so it is hard to compare. Approaching 217K with the original radiator. Not sure how much service history matters. I'd have to recheck my records, but I'm guessing I replaced the coolant FOUR times during this time and I'm sure that helped.

YES. I would agree that flushing out the cooling system at regular intervals helps to make a lasting radiator. And your results prove me right 200K+ miles on the original radiator...goes to show that with proper maintenance, original parts can last a very long time (excluding design flaws like the plastic-tipped ECTS).

188,5xx miles on mine. Kind of excited for the 200k mark, but at the same time, I don't like to watch my car slowly depreciate in value as the miles climb.

My radiator just took a crap at 188k. It's OEM, and I'm glad it got this far. No complaints in changing it, because from what I know, the only time the cooling system has been maintained was one ECTS, one T-stat, and two coolant flushes.
