Hello,
I have a 2001 SL2 with 185k Changed the valve cover gasket a few months back and it's going though about 2.5 qts per 5k Before this it was going though about one. I checked around the gasket and there is nothing leaking out from what I can see. I don't notice oil anywhere on the engine either. Any idea of what is going on here? I know SL2s burn oil I've had three now. However Im wondering if me changing the gasket had something to do with this. |

That is not excessive.
GM would not replace an engine under warranty unless it used a quart in under 750 miles. Over 1500 miles per quart is quite good.

I would say the extra vacuum from sealing up the valve cover is pulling more oil vapor through the PCV.
