Default Just purchased an '08 Outlook XR FWD.

Hi,
I know it's been a while since I bought my Outlook XR (actually, just a couple of weeks), but I've been king of busy enjoying it and I just got chance to post my experience here. I hope it's helpful.

After following the Lambdas (CUVs) since their release, I’ve been interested in the Saturn Outlook as a replacement for my 2000 Nissan Quest GXE minivan. This minivan has been great but with about 120K miles, I was getting ready to replace it. Back in April of 2007, I was interested in the new Acura MDX and the Saturn Outlook (since I really wasn’t thrilled with the new Chevy Tahoe). To me, the Outlook is much nicer looking then the GMC Acadia (and even the Buick Enclave). After seeing the new Acura MDX in person, I decided that it was going to be the Saturn Outlook.

Since I was already familiar with the lambdas, I decided to investigate how people liked their 2007 Outlooks. I became familiar with the issues that some owners were having – like the transmission shifting and the water leaks from the sunroof and luggage racks on the 2007 models. By November of ’07, I had decided to look for a 2008 Saturn Outlook XR.

This is what I wanted:
A base 2008 Saturn Outlook XR FWD
8-passenger cloth interior.
Ocean Mist or Silver exterior ( preferably with Ebony interior)

Options:
Trailering Pkg only

After sending requests for quotes to most dealers in the San Francisco bay area, I realized that most only had fully loaded XR’s and I didn’t want leather. Also, most weren’t giving me quotes. They all just sent me an invitation to test drive the Saturn Outlook. Because of this, I also sent requests to the dealers in the Los Angeles area. Again, most just invited me for a test drive with the exception of one. Saturn of Torrance actually offered me any vehicle they had on the lot for Invoice. And they did have quite a few Ocean Mist and Silver Outlook XR’s. Most had other options. So I replied to them asking them for a quote for the least loaded Ocean Mist or Silver ’08 Outlook XR FWD with the Trailering Pkg.

So, at the end of December of 2007, I drove down to purchase my new 2008 Outlook XR

Cool Re: Just purchased an '08 Outlook XR FWD.

HI,
I also wanted to post my gas mileagle experience.

Since I purchased the vehicle in Southern California, I recorded the gas mileagle for the trip I made.

When I bought the vehicle, it had 40 miles on it and the dealer delivered it me with a 'full' tank of gas. I then drove down to San Diego to drop off a friend. I then came back to Los Angeles to pick up some stuff. Most of this trip was freeway driving at about 70 mph. For this trip, the odometer read 400 miles and when a refilled my tank and it took about 18 gallons. With this calculations, it seems that I got about 20 mpg for this 360 mile trip.

I know have about 1,150 miles on my Outlook and I enjoyed driving back to the Bay Area from LA..

Congrats! And nice looking Outlook.

On February 6th (my 9 yr wedding anniversary, what a present!) I picked up my 07 Outlook XR AWD which is Midnight Blue with Gray Leather Interior (leather holds up better with my dogs).

I hit the 1 yr mark in a little over 3 weeks and I have 18,000 miles on it. I love this vehicle!

Hi,
thanks for all your comments.

But I do have some comments about the transmission shifting. When I bought this Outlook, I knew about the 'reflahs' for most '07s.

One thing that I noticed is VERY different, when compared to my 2000 Nissan Quest minivan, is the shifting of the transmission. In the minivan, I would hardly notice when the transmission was shifting as I drove. It was very smooth and unnoticeable. Now, with the Outlook, I feel just about every shifting (up). From the moment I take off until I get to cruising speed - what ever speed I need depending on the road speed limit. For city traffic, I feel it every time I stop and go. Again, I knew about this and I am just trying to enjoy my car.

But, the one issue have is when I am driving about 65 mph on the freeway and I approach a 'slower' moving vehicle, I move to the 'faster/left lane' to try to pass them. When I step on the accelerator, the car hesitates for about a second, then down shifts and just shoots up (speed) and it accerlerates very strongly - as if a burst of energy is relased from the engine. If I just maintain at 65 mph, the car runs great. Even if I accerlerate 'slowly', it does it OK, but I still feel the transmission shifting down and them up.

Oh well. I am trying to enjoy the car and hopefully I won't have any other issue (water leaks?).

Just my comments.

Congrats on the new Outlook - you got a great color! Be patient with the tranny, it takes time to get used to you. I got mine back in June and now have 8,000 miles on it. It took a while for mine to get used to me and I don't have any problems with the shifting anymore.
