1991 SL2
Default "restored" 1991 Saturn up for sale

We have decided to sell our 1991 Saturn SL2. Below are some prior posts, starting with one that describes the major work done between 2010 - 2012.

Question about repairing interior plastic
There are other misc threads where one or the other of us has posted e.g. details of the upgrade to 4 wheel discs and more if you care to search.

This car has been well maintained and we have all repair receipts since the car was bought in 1994. Current mileage is about 237K.

Recent repairs:

1. New AC Compressor, system recharge - 2019.
2. Rebuilt steering rack - 2019.
3. Valve job including timing chain, tensioner, etc., oil pan leak fix - 2019.
4. New BF Goodrich Advantage T/A Sport tires - October of 2019. The tires have less than 5,000 miles on them.

Other details:

1. We replaced the Delco head unit with a Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS with removable face plate some years ago.

2. We have a complete set of hard copy factory workshop manuals for the car.

3. We have all paperwork for every repair ever made to the car.

4. In 1997, the tranny was replaced with a 1994 transmission. This 1994 transmission was rebuilt in 2012 but the internal pump was not replaced. This pump is the one in the process of failing.

5. We have touch up paint in the color of the new paint if the buyer is interested.

Every suspension bushing was replaced with Poly and we put fresh KYB gas struts in and it has all settled in very nicely. We live near the junction of highways 9 and 35 in California and this car really hugs the road. I give a rough location to indicate that we are assessing based on living and driving on some prime twisties. She's tight and responsive, even with upper mid-grade all-season tires.

Due to a “Service Engine Soon” light, she can't pass California smog. I know it's a pressure (internal pump) issue and I was thinking I could milk her another couple of years by warming up in neutral before driving, then doing a quick 2K rev and settle back to idle before engaging a gear. That was all fine until we tried to have her smog-checked. She failed because the transmission throws a code due to slippage and it lights the CEL.

I believe I can get her smogged if we find an interested buyer. This would grant a buyer two years to figure out the transmission issue.

Other known issues:
1. Reverse lights are not working. It's probably a fuse and we can fix prior to selling.
2. Windshield washer pump not working. May need a new reservoir and pump unit.
3. Needs better headlights. We still have the OEM headlights but they need a bit of restoration.
4. There is a scrape on the right side of the front bumper
5. Car is legally salvage according to California state law. This is due to rear-ending a truck several years ago and the fact that repairs cost more than the value of the car. The car was repaired 100% - all new hood, bumper, radiator and radiator support, fan shroud and blade, left fender, and all related parts.

The car looks substantially the same as the earlier pics. I have attached a couple of very recent pics, including one showing the scrape on the right side(just on the bumper cover, ignore the reflection). If there is interest I can take more and post them on my site in a higher resolution.

It's just time honestly to turn her over to an appreciative fan of the marque if we can. We don't have the time or inclination to part her out, though there certainly is value there. I should mention that we have a ton of interior parts, though we never did find a pristine dash cap. We are asking $2,000 or best offer.

Last call. California will pay us $1,000 to crush her. If nobody is willing to try to match or at least discuss, she'll be gone in a couple of weeks.
