Default GOOD PRICE for TRANNY???

Havn't been here for a while... been so busy with the wife getting ready for the baby girl due in March... NEHOO.....

My 1995 Saturn SL1 has been out of the count for about 3 months. Started leaking tranny fluid.... metallic fragments in the fluid.... took it in and found out a pin walked out of the differential and broke into the tranny case....

SO! I love my Saturn.... had it 6 years now... I have over 207,000 miles on it. I spent $1,650 at Trans-Medic for a rebuilt differential and 5-speed transmission. (still does the stupid "not always goes into reverse" thing) but now it's great! 12 month, 12k mile warrenty on it too.

Did I get a good price?? Did I get ripped off? I put a AUTOMATIC tranny in a 1989 Cadillac Seville with overdrive at this same place 5 years ago for $1200!! I thought the 5-speed would have been cheaper.

PS: I asked to keep the OLD tranny... gears looked PERFECT, and I confirmed that YES there was a nice break from my diff thru to the other side of the case.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I normally pay $65 for a transmission.

Did they weld the pin in this one?

Not sure. I was told it would be as stong as could be allowed. SOLID as opposed to "hollow". The factory one sure did great, so I'm sure this one will be at LEAST as good. I had a few options for used trannys, but I really wanted a new or at least "rebuilt" one. For the peace of mind, and the warrenty. And the never-used parts. Sucks about that pin though.... guess it happens alot with these high-mileage cars. I DROVE the car to get a new tranny... SUCKS!
