Default 1997 SC2 - 205K miles, need help changing/cleaning parts

I'm on the SW side of Chicago by Midway. Any advice where to go besides the dealer, or any mechanically inclined people local here?

I have a rough idle problem etc and not throwing codes. Long story short, here is what everyone is recommending to me here:

1. Clean or replace EGR valve.

2. Replace ETCS.

3. Replace Idle Control sensor.

I don't know where to get the parts cheap, and I need help installing / cleaning this stuff .. I found an EGR on e-bay for $40 used....

First question, do you have the proper tools to do this job yourself? You'll need a ratchet, 10mm socket for the EGR, a 13mm for the ECTS, and I think the idle speed contol is held in by torx bits.

Pretty easy, remove the two bolts holding it in place and clean with carb cleaner. Getting a used one may yield the same problems you have now.

Cant get much simpler. Wait till the engine is cold, unplug sensor, remove sensor, replace sensor, plug back in. Top off coolant.

Again, unplug, remove screws holding in place, install new sensor and plug harness back in. You'll have to remove the throttle body to do this. This requires a 10mm socket. With 205k miles, you should also replace the throttle body gasket.

In this situation, get stock sensors. They are not that expensive.

As for locations of ECTS and EGR look at this thread closely.

In the 5th picture he has his hand right under the EGR valve.

I ordered all of the parts. The EGR looks easy! I will do that first. If no change, then the Idle control. Save the ECTS for last resort! It's possible I already have the brass one, I don't know for sure since Saturn replaced a lot of sensors in the past, but not the EGR or Idle ones.

Your new EGR valve should come with a gasket.

If you're just cleaning your old one, the old gasket shouldn't break if you're careful. It's foil on both sides and sticky on neither.
