Thumbs Up Hamilton Ontario Saturn Reunion

It was the Saturn Reunion/Customer appreciation day in Hamilton, Ontario. Free tickets to a CFL game (Ticats hosting the Montreal Alouettes) were the main attraction but it turned out there were many other good reasons to have gone.

It was nice to see so many Saturns in one place. In all, it was announced that over 1700 owners, family and friends attended and with a maximum of 4 tickets per person that means over 400 customers came out. Most days I can find my car fairly easily but it took some looking in the lot this time.

The tailgate party before was fun, with a good band and some Canadian Armed forces out there with machineguns and shoulder rocket launchers on display!

The game was very close, with Hamilton winning by a margin of 1 point by blocking a field goal in the dying seconds of the game.

There was a limited edition black badged yellow SC2, a black LS with spoiler, a metalic beige (if memory serves) VUE and a white LW parked in one end zone. I don't know if they just have the one VUE or more as I haven't been to the dealer in a while.

The halftime show continued the armed forces participation. There was a race between two 3-man teams disassembling a machinegun on tripod, running with it to the other end of the field, reassembling it and firing two 50-round blank belts switching barrels in between. One team had trouble so it was not much of a race but interesting to hear 100 rounds shot off in a few seconds.

Next during halftime was possibly the best part of the day, when armed forces precision skydivers dropped out of a plane with Canadian flag parachutes, the first trooper trailing a large american flag, others in tandem formations, some with smoke, etc. They all landed on the field. They were packing their 'chutes after halftime in amongst the Saturns -- there might be some detailing to do on those vehicles if they weren't careful!

Great fun overall!

The Winnipeg reunion was in late August and it featured a Winnipeg Goldeyes Northern League baseball game. The tickets were lousy; everyone sat way down the 3rd base line, couldn't even see the batters, and the hot sun fried everyone. We left after only 1 inning. The pregame party and food was very good, though. Saturn had no cars or VUE's on display.

Vinnie is my younger, better-looking cousin. He would not have left out the line "Holy mackinaw."
