Default 98 SW2 Engine Code

I have a 98 SW2 with 61,000 miles. Recently, service engine light came on and I checked it out. Can't remember code number but message was "slow response bank one, sensor one" . I erased code and all was fine for a couple of weeks. Then I loaned the wagon to a friend for a trip out of town and he says light came on so I suspect it to be the same code. Anyone know what the message means and what I need to do to remedy it. Thanks.

your O2 sensor is likey contaminated, not a good thing, especially after 60K. the common three causes are oil, fuel, or coolant. whats your gas mileage? burning oil? coolant leaks in the past? removing the O2 sensor and visually inspecting it can help determine the cause of failure.
