Default 99 SL2 service light on, but no stored codes

Guys,

I just bought a 99 SL2 as a winter car. It runs great, but has a service engine light problem. When you first start the car the light does not come on, but after a few minutes it comes on. I shut it off and turn the key on to scan the computer no codes stored. I tried disconnecting the scan tool, starting the motor and wait for the light to come on then plug in the scanner, but it still can't find the error code. What should I try next?

you are using a code reader, not a scanner. The parts store is not going to do you any good either. This is not the cheapest approach but it works. Pull the PCM-B fuse and leave it out for several minutes. Put it back and drive to the dealer of your choice and get then to pull all of the codes. Write them down and come back here.

The service light is usually one of the Quad drivers. Actually, with the 99 they are the only thing that turns it on. It can be a driver failure but as it takes a while to come on I doubt it. The first step is to get the codes. Guessing will not work here. And it does not sound like a bad bulb from your description either. A bad bulb will turn on the Service light. make sure that they all come on when you first turn the key to run.

This is the SES light, and NOT the "Wrench" light?
