Default Power window problem

I am going to take the door apart tomorrow, (Thursday). Just thought I might ask here for some tips as to what to look for.

My drivers door power window is not working correctly. I think it is mechanical in nature, not electrical. The window will go down fully but when I try to raise it, it stops about half way up. I can grasp the glass, give it a tug in the up direction, then I can again engage the switch and it will go up some more, but not all the way. Another tug on the glass and re engaging the switch will then cause it to finish to the fully closed position.

Repeated attempts show that the glass stops in the same positions every time. I am thinking there is a mechanical problem in the regulator. As I stated, there is no problem going down, only up.

Any thoughts before I open the door up will be appreciated.

what this sounds like to me is you are missing some teeth on your window regulator, if this is the case you will need to replace. i had the same problem but with my manual regulator had to pull up some then it would grab.. I took apart the door to come to find out that my missing teeth were in the bottom of my door.... so i just replaced

Hi, if you discover that the gears are ok check your switch as they tend to carbon up and give you intermittant operation.

excluding the above problems all I can think of is either the motor is wearing out or you have a blockage somewhere
is the arm greased well is there something in the track
figure down is much easier for the motor to handle as gravity helps it
it could still be electrical though ie. wiring

Thanks for the suggestions. I took the door apart today. All the teeth ar on the regualator. The regulator tracks are clean and I lubed them with white lithium grease. I can see nothing obvious to cause this. It won't be a switch problem because the window stops at the same two places every time. The window goes down with no problem but it is in the up direction the problem exists. Once it stops however, it will not go up or down untill I give the glass a little tug. I am thinking of a motor that may be breaking down.

I looke at the motor and it appears to be attached to the regulator with four screws. Does anybody know if the motor itself can be replaced without having to change the entire regulator assembly?

Yes, The motor only can be changed. You can also buy those black slider pieces from your friendly neighborhood saturn dealer, About $8 . They slide right out the end and I used vicegrips to snap them on. Also I noticed on every one I,ve fixed, so far, The Regulator track gets a little wear spot that needs to be filed off. May be not your issue since you said the tract was clean, But just a thought.

i had an issue where the window would go down, but as long you went all the way down or all the way up, it would work. stop halfway and the motor would run, but the window stayed in the same place. i found that the arm that runs in the track at the bottom of the window was jumping the track...i just bent the arm so it was in the track the whole time...just something to keep in mind.

Well it has started working. It still has a REAL slight hesitation at the same places it was hanging up at but it goes on through them and completes the close. All I can think of is that the lube I applied to the regulator, tracks and pivots must have helped out. Each time I run it, it gets better. So for now, I guess it is ok.
