2001 L-Series 2.2L Sedan
Default Very happy with my L200

Went on a 16 hour trip yesterday with my 2002 L200. Got an average of 30 mpg highway at an average of 70mph up and down lots of hills in West Virginia and PA. Going up the hills in MD was the worst though, Cumberland gap is up there, LOL.
She ran great and used maybe a 1/4 of oil because I need to replace the Valve cover gasket.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I'm with you. The L200's with the ECOTEC engine can be impressive with their fuel economy for the body they're powering. BTW, your information says you have a 2001 L-Series, but your message reads "2002." Is there an error, or do you have more than one L-Series car?

(FWIW, my valve cover gasket is still the factory original with no appreciable leak.)

Just one l200. I payed $400 for the car and put about $350 in it so far but some of that is tires and brakes so I consider that routine maintenance. It is what I call a swing year, It was built in early June, The title says 2001 but the vin lookup says 2002. I guess that makes it a 2001.5 LOL. Body has 191k on it, Engine is unknown mileage because it was swapped before I bought it. By the way it runs and the great gas mileage I would guess lower miles. Timing chain kit is on the way even though its not making to much noise yet I want to get it done because of the unknown mileage on engine. Was going to do it myself but I have a good bud of mine that owns a shop, he will do it for $150 if I buy the parts. He has done many of 2.2 ecos.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

"Me too"

We bought our LW200 brand new in March of 2002. Somewhere I've got that polaroid that they shot of us in the showroom taking delivery.

It shuttled my daughter to countless soccer games and later trips to college. It only left us stranded once when the fuel pump failed. It was dealer maintained 100% for the first 100K miles, and since then it's been mostly me using Mobil1 every 5K miles. These days it consumes about 1.5 qts between oil changes, but with 255K on the engine that's not really too bad.

When I think about how many parts are original it kinda surprises me. Maybe this summer we'll fix the AC...

I love my L200/5 and it is getting 30 mpg on my commute. It will get better when I change to the 4.05 final transmission. The stick shift cars come with 4.45 final and run down the road at 2700 rpm at 60 mph. The automatic cars seem to run at 2200 to 2300 at 60 mph and deliver better mileage on the highway.

2002 L200/5 loaded, loving my stick shift car now with KYB struts and adjustable rear control arms.

2750 rpms at 70 mph. Heck i see new Hyundais get only 37 mpg. I am sure I could get close to 37 with a 5 speed manual.
