![]() When doing a motor swap on a 2001, I have the PCM, but the guy doing the swap said I need the BCM(body control mod.) from the same car or it will not run. He said I could get the tech 2 to run it, and it should work. I assume this is like flashing the PCM. Should I just get try and get the BCM, will the car start without it if I am using a 2001 pcm from a dohc and a 2001 dohc motor?

![]() You don't need the BCM. Swapping engines involves changing nothing that the BCM would have any control over for running the engine. The BCM will control starter activation, theft deterent systems and the like but it does not care if you have a different engine from the factory one.
... A lousy day in paradise is still a day in paradise.

![]() Its not the motor, its the VIN that is coded into the PCM that talks to the BCM. My guy told me that it would not start if the PCM and BCM didn;t have matching vins. But I picked up the set today for 50 bucks, so either way my ass is covered
