An auto trans DOHC using ethanol gas will not break 30mpg except on the interstate at a steady cruise speed.

Don't use the acetone to get better milage. With driving condition and temp and weather changes it will be hard to prove. I just use it as a system cleaner and moisture absorber. Anything else acetone may do is secondary.

That will keep the inside of the combustion chamber squeaky clean.

That I can attest to. All the epoxy glazing from running veggy oil in it two years ago with the the saturns cold arse combustion temps is gone. Cylinders 3 and 4 have aluminum piston tops with very minor carbon in the center of those two Pistons. I was so mad when that happened.

PS. I don't even know it's there since I replaced the ignition wires. That cylinder number 4 ignition wire and been a problem for a long time. It took the cam sensor code to make me realize it.

So in February I installed this desulfation device on my Saturn. I remember my MidTronics battery tester testing it at 350cca. But it was starting the car in the dead of winter and barely passed the load test.

I get rewards at work and have or had six 50 dollar autozone gift cards. So I bought a battery from them. I removed and tested my old one and had 515cca. I still think something is wrong with it. Though. And I also need to do the parasitic load test to make sure I'm below 40ma. It sat a day or so and my charger said the old battery was at 70% charge. (12.3v)

The generic car battery is designed to just start the car, it is not designed for long term slow discharge loads or to be maintained in a less that fully charged state. Most car applications in real life end up maintaining the battery at an average start of charge of less than 100%. This markedly shortens battery service life. The CCA calculation is a back door measurement of the battery internal resistance which increases with battery age and the rate of increase is reduced or practically eliminated by using a good quality maintainer to keep the battery at 100%.

There is a growing trend to use the new combination starting and deep cycle batteries in the latest heavily computerized vehicles.

I drive the car 62 miles a day for work. It should be pressed up at the end of every work day with 14-14.5v pushing into the battery.

My Cummins has 2 expensive group 27 batteries. I usually plug that into my 8a deltran charger every few weeks if I don't drive it. I keep a volt meter in the cig lighter and when I see 12.5v on it, it's time to charge it or drive it.

Car sat overnight since 10pm and battery post voltage is 12.7 temps last night were in the low 40's. It's all good IMO. I'm not going to do the parasitic drain test seeing this.

That sounds like it is OK. whatever drain there is and whatever error is in the DVM are insignificant.

Starting batteries do have a short service life almost by design so plan on periodic replacement.

Since I started load cycling the battery I removed from the satty my Schumacher battery charger has stopped going into desulfation mode trying to charge it.

I'm a firm believer that batteries should be load cycled on a regular occasion. The Saturn has a relatively easy load on the battery.

My truck on the other hand has intake heaters along with a 3.5hp starter running on 12v. So it's an impressive amp draw. All though now with the new starter the diesel lights off in around 1 second.

The core on the Saturn battery is 18 dollars. I'll return it eventually. I'm too busy playing now.

I've never used a battery maintainer or such device in the Saturn, and have had amazing battery life out of an Autozone red battery. We get a lot more of the hot temps than the cold, but do see teens and single digits some years. This battery has also been through a number of periods with sitting for at least a couple months at a time, and at one point probably close to 6 months.

This thing fires so easy that the battery just doesn't take much abuse. I can't complain when it finally dies, but have to wonder if it's just the luck of the draw. I have no accessory stuff other than aftermarket radio, and don't put any loads on the battery other than starting.
