Was diriving in wife’s car the other day and it’s UltraGauge alarmed for a pending P0326 code... my question is, can anything but the knock sensor trigger this code?

P0326 is only for the knock sensor detecting pre detonation - an unusual combustion event associated with higher than normal compression, excessive carbon buildup raising compression, incorrect heat range spark plug, poor quality fuel. A pending code usually means the error was detected, corrected and monitoring is underway. The check engine light, presumed off, should mean everything's fine. The pending code isn't a live error.

If the check engine light is on, the error is live.

Below is a file for '05 but should be applicable for '06.

I had no idea that it would throw the code upon detecting pre-ignition, thought it would just adjust timing and go on... then again if not or the pending code alarm id have never known it at all... both the cars are on factory original plugs and I always use cheap fuel... wifes car is regularly ran at low load(high vacuum at cruise) which can make for some carbon buildup... maybe I should get some fuel system cleaner and maybe swap the plugs out for new... I ran NGK in my Redline, do they make a decent plug for the L61 or should I try and find the original ACDelco iridium?

Follow owner's manual guidelines on when to replace parts. As long as the check engine light remains off, the emissions system is fine. Regular spark plugs tend to wear down due to pre-existing designs left over from non EFI, non electronic ignition systems going back to carburetors and distributors. Spark plugs eroded and needed 5k mile cleaning, filing and gapping, lasting only 15k miles or so. When EFI systems and high voltage electronic ignition became standardized, exotic spark plugs made of platinum or other metals allowed plugs to last 100k miles without wear. I replaced my platinum (stock) plugs at 100k miles in my L300. They show very little signs of wear and could last another 100k miles but heat cycling may create stress in long term use so replacing them is wiser. Designs of platinum and other exotic plugs allows the tips to remain intact without wearing down but only recommended for engines designed to use them.
