Default window tint opinions

Soon enough I'm going to have to tint the windows on my AURA. So what are your opinions, I've got two ideas.

1) Thinking 5% on the rear doors and rear windshield, and 20% on the front doors.

2) 20% all around.

I'm not sure what would be a good choice. I have 35% on the wagon but that was me trying to follow tint laws when I was 18. I like the mystery of the 5% in the rear but not sure if it would all look right. But I do see the chauffeured town cars that just have the limo tint in the rear and plain glass up front and they look well enough.

Opinions, photos welcomed.

Oh yeah, car is black, chrome strips around the door windows and the chrome molding strip on the doors. Someday I'll take a picture.

20% or 15% would be recommended, I have 15% to match as closely as I could to the 17% factory tint. IMHO, I love 15%, but sometimes I have to roll the windows down at night. For that reason, i'd recommend not going below 15%, on any window.

I've got 15% all around, 5% windshield visor as1 line tint, and am considering doing a full 50% front windshield tint (illegal for most) for two reasons, I have medically diagnosed light sensitivity, and my job has a bit of secrecy involved, so i'd rather people not see me in uniform in my personal vehicle and associate the two (my work and personal vehicle).

You think 20% all around(option 2), or option 1 be better?

20% all around. It's hard enough looking through 15% at night, I can't imagine trying to back up and look through 5% tint behind me. I'd be sure to run something over.

Here's a pic of what 15% all around looks like on an all black vehicle:

Door #2. The first option is likely a cop magnet in your part of the country and more than likely illegal there. As long as you get a high quality tint, the heat (little of it you have up there) resistance is just as good. Limo is also a PIA to see out of at night.

Connecticut is something like 32% is legal. So with the 35% applied to my wagon it is somewhere around that mark. I was leaning towards the 20 all around, my brother had it, it was dark but could still see out of it, looked nice. A guy at work has 5% all around and it looks pretty darn good, never seen it at night, but I am concerned with how well I could see at night, even though it would only be the back windows.

I've got leather Piney, the less heat the better. Tint isn't something that really attract the police around here, heck their order of Chargers are tinted much darker than 20%. I-95 has to great a share of other stupid people driving excessively fast and weaving. Rt9, goes from the water to Hartford, seems to have a speed limit of 75, since you either do 60 or 80mph.

I drive the AURA like an old man, easy throttle(most of the time, can't resist flooring it some), set cruise around 70mph. The wagon I kept at 80mph and whipped it around alot, before buying the AURA a few weeks ago.

I do wonder how it will affect the auto-dimming mirror. There doesn't seem to be a manual override, none that I could find. Either the ability is on or off.

Our 04 also had 15% all around. So since late 03, we've been driving with 15% all around and never once been stopped or even had a comment about the illegal tint, in Tennessee or Ohio. So it's up to you whether you want to be within legal limits or take the risk, I'd say take into consideration how picky the cops are in your area.

That's what you think. I quit telling you all the times i've been pulled over just because you like to point it out so much. I HAVE been pulled over to point out for my illegal tint. Thankfully I have legal permits that allow me darker than law tint, so it was just a matter of showing proof I could have my tint at 15% when state law was 35%.

definitely go 20% all around. I wouldn't do anything darker than 15% that's for sure. So do 15% or 20% all around, your choice really!

And trust me, using the excuse "well the cops do this, so I should be fine" isn't a good excuse. Usually they have allowances in the law to permit them to do things the rest of us can't. Even tempting fate by thinking that will lead you toward trouble.

Ok, let me rephrase. I'VE never been stopped for the tint or had anyone say anything about it.

I have 20% all the way around...search in sl forums for a pic....Id would like to go darker....but it was 220 bux that i dont want to spend again.

darkness really depends on tint brand too...my 20% on my satty is nowhere CLOSE to the darkness of the 20% on the sides of my ranger....thats after 4-5 years of being in the sun on my ranger...

I also have 32% on the whole windshield of my ranger....It sucks at night....I even have 2 sets of HIDs

My last 4 cars have had 5% on all the rear windows. Love it and that'll be the standard for every car I own. Never had a problem seeing at night either and I'm old and half blind.......
Calif law doesn't allow tint on the fronts, and all mine have been legal, so can't comment on what to do on the fronts.

My Ion has 15%, which is actually lighter than my old SC1 which had 20% all around. So brand is definitely a big deal, but I wouldn't recommend 5% at all, especially since I personally find any change in tint between the front and rear windows goofy looking. Consistency man! Go with the 20%

It won't matter much. I've had those mirrors in my old LSS, Park Ave, Pacifica and Bonneville. The mirror compensates just fine for the lights when the windows are tinted.

On the tint too dark: All it does is give any officer who may be bored or wondering what is behind the tint reason, valid probable cause, to stop you at any time. A high grade tint will do the trick and keep the heat down.

On the night driving with dark tint - I had the CRV-SE tinted with limo over the factory tint. It might as well have been a panel van. Horrible night vision for sure. If you live in the country, that might not be an issue but, down here, it is one big intersection and people drive like idiots with no idea what a lane change indicator is or any thought to the rules of the road.
