Idea Cold Air Intake

Is there much of a difference between the cold air intakes like Weapon-R (cheapest) to AEM, or the INJEN? What's the difference with the short ram air also??? Figure I should ask before I buy.

CAI claim that you will see more gains. This is because the air is being pulled in farther away from all the heat of the engine. A Ram air system will place your filter in the engine bay and thus expose it to a lot of heat.

I have the AEM CAI and love it. Each company will claim that theirs is the best and will yield you more power then the competition, but I think it to be more of a marketing ploy. But that's just me.

I would either go with the Injen, Fujita, or Aem CAI. You can get them pretty cheap off ebay. I bought a Fujita CAI for $220 shipped.

Does anyone have any dyno data on the true performance gains? I've seen the mfg's make some wild claims on Mustang CAI's between 5-15HP.

I own a 2005 ION QC3, and bought the Weapon-R. I had no luck with it. I went ahead and bought the INJEN, and so far so good. I think with the exhaust and INJEN my car is performing better. I have several photos of the install. Take a looksee.

bhp = brake horsepower is the same as flywheel hp before it goes through the transmission.. wheel hp is taken effect after all the drive train loss.. the whp on the ion stock n/a 5 speed is around 120-130whp even less on a auto..

I thought it was even more on an auto, and usually more towards 120 at the wheels. Any intake from Fujita, Injen, or AEM is going to get you the same amount of power, its basically just a preference to which brand you want to represent.

alone, not that much, but as a system with a bigger throttle body, and a nice, free flowing exhaust you will be able to notice a gain

as for the difference, there isnt much, but last time i checked, the weapon R was the only one that was not CARB legal, so you might not pass emissions

i have a short ram HKS. ran me $50 off ebay. i like it, especially for that price, but i dont suspect that it give as much gain as a CAI, but i dont think they are sooo different. when you take the airbox of to install it, you still have that plastic tube that was part of the airbox running down to where the CAI would run down to. so really the coldish air is still getting up there, just not through the same tube. i am possibly looking to sell it though, so if anyones interested let me know.
