Default Muffler

I'm looking to put an aftermarket muffler on my car, I was wondering which would be better, to put a muffler and put a tip on it or to get one that is all together with the muffler and the tip. I recently had a 2000 Chevy Malibu I had a Ractive cannon on it and it sounded good but that was outta V6. I don't want the ricer sound of the 4 cylinder if I can avoid it

Pretty much all aftermarket "performance" mufflers come with a polished tip already.

Its not the tip itself that determines sound, its the construction of the muffler. There are MANY threads on exhaust set ups, i suggest a search. Most consist of a decent size resonator to take out the buzz and a good muffler.

I mst agree with RaliArt. Make sure you get a resisnator. That takes a lot of buzzing and riciness out of a setup. Also choose your rear muffle carefully. Big tipped mufflers tend to produce a fart can sound.

I'm running an OBX dual tip.

That setup would seem fine to mess. I'm not sure what it would do sound wise. The header is only 2 inch. so the stock piping is about that size and the mating would be fine there. At the end you will have to jump to 2.5 inch.

I was thinking about getting a high flow catalytic converter, a magnaflow single in single out muffler and putting like a 2 1/2 inch tip on it.

Not a bad idea, but that setup would be really really loud.

I would suggest at least 2 mufflers. especially if you are doing straight throughs. I'm running 2 straights and I will be dynomatting my trunk and rear deck soon to keep out all of the droneing. I can only imagine the amount of sounds that only 1 would produce. It would also be rather vulger, without enough space to even out the gross noises an engine often makes. 4 cylinders make lots of gross noises.

What about putting a 2.5 inlet muffler (obx dual tip) to the stock piping but with obx headers. any suggestions? Will the muffler help the header breath. what do you think it will sound like?

It'll sound nice. Just do NOT remove the stock resonator.
