Default Receiver/dryer questions

Saturn vue 2006 fwd 3.5l, when i replace the receiver/dryer filter do i need to add 2 oz of pag 100 to it even if no oil was in the one i pulled? If i do have to add pag to the new filter how do i go about doing that, do i just pick one end and pour in two oz or does it have to go into a specific end or do i just add the two oz through the manifold gauge and the receiver/dryer will just collect the 2 oz through normal a/c use? Thank you in advance.

Default Re: Receiver/dryer questions

Presuming your '06 3.5L Vue is the same as '05 Vues, no mention in service manuals which line to poor pag oil into the drier. When parts are removed from vehicle ac systems, oil is removed so procedures are written on which parts requires makeup oil to balance removed oil. Even though your original drier is empty, service manuals don't mention this and states filling the replacement drier with two ounces of pag oil. Better to poor oil into the drier to lessen the chances of the system not supplying oil at all times when the compressor is running.
