Default valve cover gasket

I bought a Fel Pro VS 50701 R from Rock Auto, which is what is listed for my 97 SOHC.

This is what I got- what are the little tab thingies? Wrong part? Or am I missing something.....

Maybe re-enforcing the gasket? That is the only thing I can think of...

If it were me- I would probably put some additional beading of gasket maker to enforce the premade gasket.

As an example- That is what I have done with water pump gaskets in the past.

after further review, I used a razor blade and cut off the tabs. Some RTV on the valve cover to hold in place. Onward onward....

the tabs help hold the gasket in place while you are installing the valve cover.

It was whatever FP gasket Rock Auto says fits my car. A bright blue one.
Seems to be working OK so far.
