Wrench 94 Saturn SL1 - 6 SES Codes

94 Saturn SL1 4 Dr Sedan
4 Cyl 1.9L

I have a 94 Saturn SL1 with 127,000 miles on it. The Service Engine Soon light will turn on and off usually once it gets up to the normal operating temp then it begins to jump and it seems like its missing. I checked the codes with a paper clip and got 6 of them. I called Saturn and the manager told me what they were.

19 - 6x Signal Fault
22 - Throttle Position
26 - QDM (Quad Driver) Error
32 - EGR Fault
35 - RPM Out Of Range
42 - IC (Idle Air Control Grounded)

He also told me it may be the Ignition Modual or sensors. I replaced the fuel filter and that didnt work. So if anybody has any suggestions on how to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jimi

Wow, thats alot of codes. You might want to disconnect the battery to clear them, then drive the car again and see which ones reset themselves. Some of those could be old codes from previous repairs that weren't cleared.

For a quick and dirty diagnosis over the web, it sounds as if you are in need of an ignition control module (causing code 19 and 35) a new EGR valve (causing codes 26 and 32) and possibly new TB sensors (TPS and IAC) or just a good cleaning and making sure connectors are tight. But that is just a quick diagnosis. A bad MAP sensor can cause some of these codes too though....

Ok I disconnected the battery and I changed a few parts.

1. Map Sensor
2. Ignition module
3. Both Coils
4. Spark plugs and wires
5. EGR valve
6. EGR Solinoid

Now Im still getting SES codes 41 and 42. Here is the definitions I found online although Im not sure what the A's B's and C's are supposed to mean.

41
Ignition control circuit open or shorted

41A
EST circuit open

41B
EST circuit shorted

42
EST bypass, open or shorted

42A
Bypass circuit grounded

42B
Bypass circuit open

42C
Bypass circuit shorted

Please Help
Thanks
