2008 VUE 3.6L
Default Driving X-Country, Mod recommendations?

I'm driving x-country in an 08 AWD Vue towing a 6x12 Uhaul trailer. The Vue has only 15K miles on it and is in perfect shape. My Dad is old school and wants me to change my thermostat to a 160 degree, flush the cooling system and replace with straight anti-freeze, and change the oil to 15-40. This might have worked well in his older Jeep but I don't want to go messing around with things before I get some opinions. Thanks!

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Don't follow any of Dads recommendations and you will be fine.
Our VUE's are computer controlled and the 160 thermostat would wreak havoc with the emissions and fuel mileage.
I would follow the recommendations in the manual as to what oil to use.
I have used Mobil 1 synthetic since the first oil change. It is well suited for high temperature applications.

Thanks for the validation - it's hard telling your Dad that he's wrong but I don't feel like messing up my Vue to simply placate him!

I just drove my 08 AWD Vue (20K miles) from Cedar Rapids, IA to Tucson, AZ 3 weeks ago pulling cargo (1,500+ miles). The Vue performed EXCELLENT without any mods. Just be sure to get a fresh oil change before the haul and make sure all of the fluids are topped off.

You may want to get an aux transmission cooler to keep the temp down a bit. Just a thought. And you want to keep it out of Overdrive. I have an '05 and the manual says to use "I" which is 3rd gear when towing. Less strain and stress on the tranny.
