Default yeah i know... another PERF thread (but mine's better :D)

I had my transmission on the PERF setting for 2 days now and not only did i notice better shifting, but more throttle response and faster acceleration under part throttle. Its amazing... i love my car again.

yes and no. With the PERF button activated, the RPM's stay higher to get the most power from the engine. With the switch in NORM, the RPM's stay low, but when it shifts to the highest gear and you have to accelerate a little, its dumping more gas into your engine thats under a load without downshifting. Its controversial.

No its not.
Saturns are rated at 134HP DOHC 112HP SOHC,
civic EX and DX are 120 HP SOHC, and 140 HP DOHC SI.
thats 3rd gen (92-96)
4th gen civic are VTEC engines mostly going from 97-2001 EX to the famous SIR, SI's put out a whipping 155 HP, and the SIR's punch a pack of 185.
Civic's are also FAR more reliable then saturns. Also, Civics in all gen's except first are MPFI, most 1st gen saturns are SOHC TBI.

stockers of what are you refering to? Saturns or Civics..... Civic EX DX and SI all have different engines (heads basically) Si just has better pistons and compression. saturns just have so many problems....

Well my plastic car still smokes tin can Civics, LOL. As for Civics being better, I don't think so, I know more Civic people that have replaced head gaskets than Saturn people.

My friend has a Civic (turbo) and looks great from a distance but as soon as you get up to it you see the exterior is shotty.. the passenger's window is off the track so it doesnt work... he painted the wipers and now they're rusting... but he's a stupid ricer that had everything done for him. He's starting to get interested in fixing the problems, but he's still got a long way to make something of it. Hell, it even has a shift lock on an AUTOMATIC lol. Its a good design, but doesnt help you when you get your car towed at the mall for parking illegally.

My cousin sold his civic at less than 100000 miles because the engine was going to need around $2500 worth of stuff... that and he was tired of all the Saturns outrunning him.

He works for Saturn, has for years, the only reason he doesn't own a Saturn is because he likes trucks... Can't figure that one out...

This isn't always true. Yes, most Honda Civics are slow, but over the years they have made some pretty fast cars:

90-91 CRX Si Hatchback - 16.81
92-93 Si Hatchback - 16.34*
94 Si Hatchback - 15.86*
95 Si Hatchback - 16.48*
96 EX Coupe - 16.12*
97 EX Coupe - 16.54
98 EX Coupe - 16.63
99-00 Si Coupe - 15.58*
01 EX Coupe - 16.73
02-03 Si Hatchback - 15.84*
04-05 Si Hatchback - 15.91*
06 Si Coupe - 15.00* (197 hp wow)

*indicates a faster 1/4 mile time than a stock Saturn SC2

These are the fastest Civics made in their respective years from 1990 to date. Our saturns stock run about a 16.5, so most of the civics on that list would beat us.

ffs. my 99 sl2 ran a 16.1 with a ****ty clutch and bald tires.

saturns are slow, and they suck.

civics are slow, and they suck.. BUT, they're a little more reliable, and have huge aftermarket.

Unfortunately, civics cost more to purchase a good condition used one, so I'm stuck with my sl2 daily driver and sc2 turbo project. Woohoo.

Its not just purchase price that is higher for Honda. Maintainence costs are also higher. Here is a breakdown for everyone's entertainment.

94 Si Hatchback vs 94 Saturn SL2.

Purchase price (via KBB.com, default options, 95,000mi {yeah right!}, private party, and fair condition) Civic= $2,800, Saturn= $1,575.

Repair costs= Civic vs Saturn
(all prices from autozone.com, with any core charges included)
Alternator................. 215.99 vs 118.49
Water Pump ............. 38.99 vs 34.99
Radiator .................. 98.99 vs 148.99
Power steering Pump.. 124.39 vs 49.99

Total repair cost: Civic Si=478.36. Saturn SL2=352.46.
Total cost, including purchase price: Civic=3278.36, Saturn=1927.46

Now you know why I chose a Saturn instead of a Civic. Imagine what you could do with the extra $1350.90?

It actually opens a little flapper inside the engine that allows the VTEC's to flow more smoothly.

Its a little known fact, but true.
