I rebuild my transmission in my 1999 sl2, Vehicle shift well in all forward gears, but when I shift it into reverse, it appears to want to go forward, and locks up. I read in another form that someone had the same problem, and found that they installed a part backwards. I removed the transmission again, and went through it, and I can't see where I made a mistake. Any advise?

If it is going forward in reverse ,then there must be some problem with the
forward /reverse servo ,or the related gears that the shift fork engages otherwise there is not enough pressure ,to move the servo piston enough or some binding in this area ,! Can you push the shift fork into the reverse position ? does it snap back to forward range ,when released ?

From the service manual.
Complaint Transaxle Binds in Reverse and Creeps Forward in Neutral Clutch Clearance too tight. Possible cause Clutch plate tangs not aligned to gear hub. Check clutch clearance and repair as required. Correction Inspect all gear/hub assemblies for proper engagement into clutch plates. You purchase the latest version of the TAAT manual, http://www.ebay.com/itm/TAAT-Transmi...lVQncx&vxp=mtr
You can use the TAAT section of any 93-02 FSM which usually sells for 20.00. The used car manual places have these. |
